    Hey.

Heading off to Belgium to visit the girlfriend after chrimbo; was wondering if there are any spots that might be of interest to check out? We're also thinking about getting the train down to Paris for a day, so any insight on that would be great too.

    Thanks

Bruges or Ghent, or both. Small cities with plenty of medieval buildings, canals, and all sorts of interesting details. If there is snow, they might be really spectacular. Bruges gets more attention, and so is a bit more touristy. I liked Ghent more. (Both are in Flanders, and their Flemish names are Brugge and Gent.)

I liked Ypres (aka Ieper). It was flattened in WW1, but they rebuilt their major public building, the Cloth Hall, just as it was for centuries. It now houses a war museum that I found very moving. The Menin Gate is there, too. I suppose that might look like a gloomy idea for a visit with the girlfriend!
