I got a game - Crysis - and I see it requires 1Gb RAM to operate. My PC has 1024 so will this game work before I go and open the package and if it does will it put a lot of "stress" on the system.

Apologies - Im not too well up on the technicalities or the jargon.

The full system requirements are here ....
    http://www.crysis-online.com/Information/System%20Requirements/

If you are running Vista the minimum required RAM is 1.5Gb . 1Gb applies to XP . You also need a decent video card with a minimum 256Mb RAM on it and a very fast processor . You also need 12Gb of free space on your hard drive . I would say your machine is not likely to be up to spec if its over a year old (unless it cost big bucks in which case you may be ok!) . You can run a free program like PCWizard .... available free here
    http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
which will analyze your system if you're not sure what video card / CPU (and other hardware) you have .

All that said , I have never played the game and am only going by the tech requirements in the first link . The guys who play the game will be in a much better position to advise you as the game is scalable to a degree . Maybe you should post this in the Games forum ?

Crysis needs a serious machine if you want to run it smoothly. The specs listed are minimum and that's exactly the type of performance you'll get if you run on the minimum specs. I'd recommend at least 2Gb RAM personally and a 8800GT if you want any sort of performance out of it. What spec is your graphics card?

Thanks for the replies guys. i was going to post this originally in the games forum but I was initially more concerned about the potential harm that running this game might inflict on the system.

My set up at the moment is:

O.S. - Windows XP home edition
    Video card - ATI Radeon X300/x500 series - 256mb
    Hard drive - 34GB free
    Processor - 3.2Ghz (I think)

So its not looking good at the moment.

Now my young lads have a better PC with the following spec:

    O.S. - Windows XP
    Video card - 256MB nVidia GeForce 7900GS
    Processor - Core 2 duo 2.13 Ghz
    RAM - 2048 Mb
Hard drive - 180 Gb free

So it looks like I will have to give it to them (early Xmas presie)

Your set up won't run Crysis at all. Maybe on a technical basis, but on a practical level not even the lowest resolution and lowest settings will yield a playable experience on your system.

The other PC is much better and will run it at medium-ish settings..
