Anybody used one with positive effects? I heard about these on the new rider forum. never had much interest until I looked at the symptom sof magnesium deficiency and realised it matched my mare a lot. (in particular the excess sweating and over excitability).
My 22yr old mare has been on electrolytes every day for the last 2 years as she sweats so much when excited. Shes also a bit dead in the mouth so hard to hold (okay by herself but hacking or in a group even a pelham or gag with grakle wont stop her leaning and going). I know a fair bit bout herbs so shied away from trying those as I take them myself when I cannot sleep and want to avoid deadenign her reactions and mentality.

Have decided to give the magnesium a go ordered some today. be glad o hear anyone elses view or experience. Was not sure if this stuff works or if its just a supplement phase.

forgot to add teeth, back and saddle all fine. Mare goes out and wins showjumping id just like to try relax her a little more on hacks and in groups and get her a bit more between leg and hand

Like you said lots of people seem to have had success with it, so its definitely worth a go anyway. Let us know how you get on with it.

Some horses do tend to sweat excessively like some humans do as well. There could be other reasons for it but I'd definitely give the magnesium a shot.

I tried one of the Rocky red bricks on a jumpy mare and it worked a treat on her calming her down. I presume it has to do with her sweating away all her electrolytes and effecting the levels of conducting fluid in the brain which leads to being a bit jumpy..

Thanks guys. Its ordered so once it arrives I will take her off electrolytes and try her on that for a week and let you know. Shes just 3 weeks back into work after an injury (cantered on wed night and she was sound :D) so I want to get off on the right foot.
always been a buzzy little mare spent years on the sjai and amateur circuit before I got her so showjumping is all she wants to do - Im just trying to get her to focus for me without taking away her personality

Let us know how she gets on, I also found that turnout has a very positive effect on buzzy horses especially with company.

I use NAF Magic and the difference is huge.. he's not deadened by it but it stops him being a total idiot and overreacting to situations.. he doesn't get it all the time either.. normally just when very fit or I use the competition dosage before a potentially exciting blow-his-brains situation.. i.e hunting, sponsored rides etc.. it just makes it a more pleasant experience for us both.. no excess nervous sweating, leaping, pulling etc.. he just enjoys himself (and so do I)

For shows I use something a bit stronger as in eve performances he can get too lit up - Supreme DeFuse.. but its not for everyday use.. brilliant though for specific situations..

If you didn't want to fork out for "horse-y" products if you use actual Cal-Mag (in big 25kg bags - UK price @ £20stg ) - you will get the same results.. I know people who do this and swear by it..
