    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128445/

I haven't seen this one myself, sadly. I do like Wes Anderson, and thought The Life Aquatic was fantastic, but still didn't get around to seeing Rushmore. I expect a telling off. :(

It's a very good film Jason Shwartzman is just excellent but the star of the show for me is Bill Murray. Loved the epic play about Vietnam at the end; absolute class.

The Max Fischer Players are brilliant.

I'll be back to comment on Rushmore in more depth later... In the meantime here are 3 plays based on famous movies that were made for the 1999 MTV Movie awards.

Ah Rushmore. The film that I have argued with people about to no end. My personal Citizen Kane of the 90s.

It's just one of the most magnificent films ever made. Bottle Rocket was good, but Rushmore was revolutionary. In terms of visuals, it established Anderson's unique and wonderful style. Script wise, first rate. There are so many laugh out loud lines: "Really? Well I wrote and directed a hit play!". The acting is consistently masterful. Jason Schwartzman is perfect in the lead, perfectly hitting the correct balance between quirkiness, oddness and heart. Bill Murray is typically excellent, in perhaps one of the first examples of the cynical, quiet middle aged man he has dazzled us with since. And of course the soundtrack, the first of Anderson's terrific mixtapes.

The Royal Tenenbaums was superb. The Life Aquatic amazing but uneven. The Darjeeling Limited a near masterpiece. But none have quite charmed me as much as Rushmore. This post may seem to be littered with hyperbole, but it's really that good a film. Not for everyone - the quirkiness and whimsy are turned up way past eleven. But this is one of my favourite films of all time, and for many I am sure it's charms have had the same effect.
