Less hassle with a PS3 40GB with games deal or struggle to get a PS3 60GB?

I love playing my old favorite ps2 games on my ps3, its nice that it upconverts them and they look better imo.

I guess it depends how much you would use the BC feature.

    I would really miss it.

    go for the 60GB
    1:bigger harddrive
    2:backwards compatible
    3:More USB ports.

How could you say no to that?

There is no choice to make. The 60GB is not available new any more and nobody has been able to get one for the last 3 weeks. The stock of 60GB has been depleted and 40GB is now the only available SKU.

Just get the best bundle deal on 40GB that you can.

I just bought one two weeks ago from Virgin in Cork.

    1. you can always upgrade the HDD to anything you want it seems, like 250GB when you fill the 40GB or they are cheap enough when the 300GB comes out etc..
    2. I have seen the PS3 and PS2 palying the same game beside each other, and the PS2 plays the PS2 games better with less jaggies and better FPS, so i would play my PS2 games on my PS2...
    3. isn't 2 USB ports enough really?

    just my 2c worth...

Arrrggghhhh, like I really want the 60GB one but its proving hard to come by and there are so many good deals for the 40GB one at the minute, other than the larger memory is there any other huge difference?

Why do you want a 60GB if you don't know the differences?

The larger disk is a minuscule difference. buy a huge hard disk with the 40Gb-60GB price difference and throw it in if ya want. And you can always plug in extra usb hard disks, or use the media server to just play movies/music off any pc in your house.

The 60GB has PS2 compatibility, but they intentionally make the games not look as good as they do on a real PS2 - makes the new gen games look better.

Really? CoD3, GT 4 look much better through the PS3 than they do on the PS2.

Oh, maybe some games do look better then. The few ps2 games that I've put into the PS3 don't look nearly as nice on the ps3 (e.g. PoP). Maybe sony have fixed it up in the newer firmwares...I recall a few websites online being pretty annoyed with sony for how the ps2 games looked - then again this was back in the days of FW 1.5 so this may have been improved since. Don't really use the ps2 games any more so can't comment on the current performance.

You can switch upscaling and smoothing for PS2 games on in the PS3 settings, which is whjat makes the big difference. Does it for PS1 too apparently, but I haven't tried it.

So generally there isnt really any HUGE difference between the 2?

GameSTOP in Swords had a couple of S/H 60GB PS3s the last time I was there, which was last Friday. Worth a shot ?!

The PS2 compatibility is hit and miss in my experience. Several games I tried did load but the controls wouldn't function - Lemmings was one of them. The extra USB ports are useful if you connect external HDs or BUZZ controllers and a couple of other devices like I do. Although I presume bog standard USB hubs could be employed instead ?!

Has anyone actually replaced the internal hard disk here ? Any issues ?

I'm fairly interested in that as well, I'll definitely be doing it if and when Sony catch up with MS and add divx/xvid support.
Does it take SATA or IDE drives?

    /edit
ignore that, I was just being too lazy to google it... (I might treat myself to this after crimbo:))

I got a 60G PS3 in Argos cork ( Mahon) last Monday. I just checked and they
are still in stock. You can reserve them online and they will hold them for 3 days.:)
