    From: http://www.environ.ie/en/Environment/News/MainBody,16215,en.htm

    Motor Tax
Motor tax will be charged for all new cars and pre-owned imported cars with effect from 1 July 2008. From that date, motor tax on these cars will be determined solely on the basis of the CO2 emissions.

Motor tax rates will be graduated as one moves up the CO2 bands, as follows:

Band A, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of under 120grams per kilometre - motor tax rate of €100.
Band B, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of between 121 and 140 grams per kilometre – motor tax rate of €150.
Band C, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of between 141 and 155grams per kilometre – motor tax rate of €290.
Band D, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of between 156 and 170 grams per kilometre – motor tax rate of €430.
Band E, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of between 171 and 190grams per kilometre – motor tax rate of €600.
Band F, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of between 191 and 225 grams per kilometre – motor tax rate of €1,000.
Band G, the top band – motor tax rate of €2,000, reflecting CO2 emissions of over 225grams per kilometre.

The VRT which will range from 14% to 36%, will probably look like this::D follows
    A 14%
    B to G 36%

The current CO2 emissions can be found here

Its tough to find something in class A

The 4.5l Lexus GL, at 186grms/k will only cost 600 to tax if bought new after July 1 next, as opposed to 1303 now

    The Merc F-700 would be the ideal choice. 127 g/km CO2 = €150 tax. 5.3 l/100km fuel consumption.

The F 700 sets standards in regard to road roar, tyre vibration and suspension comfort. With two laser scanners the active PRE-SCAN suspension scans the roadway in front of the car. The hydraulically controlled active suspension proactively compensates for detected hindrances, giving one a smooth ride over Irish potholed roads.

The driver can “discuss” more complex inputs, such as a destination for navigation purposes, in dialogue with an avatar, a virtual operating assistant. Ideal for appallingly signposted Irish roads!

The soon to be VRT-free Venturi Fetish electric car has a faster 0-100 km/h acceleration (4.6 sec) than the Porsche Cayman S (5.4 sec) or the 911 Carrera (5.0). The two Porschen have about 260 g/km CO2 pollution. The Fetish has zero CO2 per km, assuming you tank it up with green electricity.
