This is a recurring problem. Crops up at random times for no apparent reason.

I use the onboard audio. I tried reinstalling the drivers. It says speakers are "plugged out" even though they are not. Then it tries to change output to spdif device, which there is none.

The speakers cannot be selected in the dropdown menu in the mixer

    Its very annoying.....any solution?

Are you using the latest drivers from here?

Also note the red warning about a " special " cable ! How many speakers do you have attached ?
    * To set up an 8 channel audio configuration, you must use 5.1/7.1 Surround Cable (Optional). Please refer to the Accessories for more detail information.

Yes I have installed those drivers.

I only have one set of speakers connected to the audio out on the mobo. The only other audio connections are mic and line in.

    There is no spdif connection

What graphics card are you using ? The site FAQ specifies that there is an issue with ATI 2000 series cards confilicting with onboard audio !
