Can anyone tell me a little about this?

I have been asked to work for a site involved in this where they coach and stake players for online poker..

I know very little about the concept and would like some more details before I discuss it any further with them...

TBH I didn't even know such a thing existed....

Dusk til Dawn got into this a wile back they called there staked players traders AFAIK they all went bust lol.Think the guy who was second wsope was a staked onliner by badbeat.com I think, the storey was they used to start him every day with £400 and chop the winnings at the end of the day. I do think you will see more of it in the future and know GJP do a bit of it

was thinking about doing this on ipoker on a different skin in the near future. Is anyone here on gjp doing it?. Is it worth the hassle ? would be ok i guess to build another BR on a diff skin.

Hi Mac, a mate of mine does this online for badbeatpoker.com

Basically every day when he log's in there is $500 put into his account to play with, I think it's 50 sng's a week or 3000 raked hands or a mixture of both he has to play,

So lets say your up $1000 for a day I think you get half of it but the next day there's not $1500 in your account it's a fresh $500 dollars to start over with,

His account can be watched daily to see how he's playing, If they think he played a hand badly they can call him through skype and talk to him about how to play future hands

If he loses over $1500 in a week they half the limit to $250 a day

This sounds like an excellent way to build a bankroll..and to instill some discipline into your game..

Something I've wondered about these, if they deposit $500 in your account each time you log in surely you can only really play .5/1 MAX single tabling...

That abdbeat deal sounds like it sucks. Most staking deals like this you keep 100% of the profits but get 0 rakeback. They also require you to clock up a set amount of table time every month. For anyone who is a winning poker player the deals are useless.

For the most part you're probably right Ian,but it's that old catch 22,if you're a winning player you won't need/want a staking deal, but if you're broke and want a staking deal the stakers won't want you.
So what type of players do this, and how do these deals come about?Players approach sites or vice versa?

By my reckoning staking is only good for proven players who cant/wont use proper bankroll management.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,754 ✭✭✭ianmc38

Well a decent player should be able to grind out a roll for .50/1 within a week or two of depositing $100 so being broke shouldnt really be a problem, unless you're at the point where you're scraping through bins for $10 notes....

This sounds something like the concept..... They say thy attrach small stakes player without a roll teach them to be successfulland then stake them... I havn't been tod the deal for the players yet but I know this same conpany offer to stake me a while bad (god love em) with quite a substantial roll but I refused as TBH with ym own roll even playing 1/2 with rakeback I would be better off then playing 3/6 on their deal ....

I can't see it benefiting the player too much but I suppose a guy with a small roll who wans to skip a few levels and earn somethin every day it's not a bad idea...

I'll make more enquiries.... btw if anyone has any more info on this please let me know...

    Thanks,

    Mac

    Hi Mac,

Inside Poker Sept edition (has a picture of Doyle on the front) has a small article on this. I think its about badbeatpoker.com. 3 different players give a small blurb about how it works for them. I think they are all on different limits.

Sorry I can't give you more info as I took this mag. home from work with me yesterday after having it in work for about 2 months ..... Isn't that typical?

Maybe you can go to their web site and view the article? Not sure if this can be done without a subscription.

I've been talking to Bad Beat myself.....The system seems to have worked for them but I'm still undecided.

The only players that I can see it benefitting are really good players that are prone to tilt and need to get advice if they take a beat.

I think alot of players could potentially benefit, only the tilt monkeys and bankroll blunderers would actually require it.

I always ask myself this question however, if they are successfull at playing poker surely their time would be better spent at the tables rather than holding the hands of tilt monkeys?

Staking is only good if you are a winning player but don't have the BR due to life rake.

And as Ian said, make sure you get 100% profit but $0 rake.

Interesting Question Macspower!! In My Broad Experience, There Is Many Types Of Stakes Or As We In Holly Hill Call Them Steaks. Some Examples Of Sound Steaks Are Porterhouse, Rump, Ribeye And Tbone. Of Course Much Worse Steaks Or 'stakes' Can Be Found Such As Round, Oysterblade Or Poontang Cut. I Hope This Had Clarified Your Issues, Lad.

    Just to clarify:

We did have a scheme similar to this but we don't currently take any new players. They can be good for players who are looking to build a roll a bit quicker or for players who have tilt/br management issues.

It is possible we will do it again in the future but it at the moment it takes too much time to manage properly and for the risk/reward for the staker managing the players is key.

A lot of the players we had on the scheme have gone on to be successful on their own.

I had a look on youtube and this was the first result when I typed in the keywords broke, degenerate, hobo and "root through bins for money".

It's quite depressing to watch actually.
