    U-turn needed on rest areas (from editoral from the indo)

    The decision by the National Roads Authority to scrap plans for rest areas on our main roads is nothing short of abject surrender to law breakers. Rest areas are sections of road where a driver can pull in and sleep, or use a toilet. They are not to be confused with the full service stations that the NRA has promised to build at 50km intervals on motorways, some time in the future.


    The NRA says it will not now create rest areas because it fears they will be used for "anti-social" activity, as in other countries.

    The answer to their concern can be summed up in one word: policing.

    My opinion is that this is typical of Ireland. We have a weak democracy where nothing is enforced, and here is another example. WE cant have then because we wont protect them.
