What things will be though of as definitively noughties?

    I suggest:
    • Reality TV in general, Big Brother specifically
    • Skinny tie pop (Strokes, etc)
    • War on Terror (TM)
    • Scrubs
    • Going to Thailand to "find yourself"
    • Cocaine
    • Amy Winhouse & Pete Doherty
    • youtube (It wont die out but will probably be superceded by another site eventually)
    • Bebo, MySpace, Facebook
    • Paris Hilton
    • Michael Moore
    • Disasterous weather (This may well be quite 10s, 20s, 30s etc too)

Strange how people think some things are specific to their time.

Coke may be considered an Irish 00's thing but it was very popular in the 70s elsewhere
Michael Moore's work and style are nothing new
Skinny tie is an 80s thing, is there something else by putting "pop" at the end? Even if there is it is a retro thing.

Going to find yourself anywhere is again not new even in Ireland but is a I guess more popular as people can afford to do it.

Global warming as a theory is around a long time and the 80s had a lot of it. So not a 00s thing.

Track suits into socks is a retro 80s thing. People used to use leg warmers and/or boxer boots to complete the look too.

Mullets are 60s (mods) and 70s (mods) and 80s(pop thing all over the place). The "nue" mullet with spiking and flattening to me doesn't really look mullet enough and more like the old 80s spike. It probably has some other name than mullet but people seem to like calling it a mullet

    Anyway,

    Coke - 80's
    Internet/Online communities - 90's
    Coke - 80's
Global Warming - Well it hasn't just started.
    Coke - 80's
Ipod - I'll give that one to you but the MP3 player has been around longer than the iPod.
    Coke - 80's
Immigration - This isn't really limited to a decade, it happens all the time.
    Coke - 80's

I kinda tore your whole post to bits :D

    Of course !

There seem to be very few things specific to the 00's (personalities/people don't really count) but I guess that has always applied to every generation.

ebay for me was more the 90's. It was huge when it first came out and was already a top ten web site by 2000.

MS Vista will *probably* be in the list when it's asked again on boards.ie in 2010 :)
