Diverting an O2 phone

Anyone know why I can divert an O2 number to a British mobile number but NOT to a French mobile number (Orange France)? tried repeatedly to do this while in Paris last week, but no go.

I almost certain that diversion commands such as *21*...etc only work when you are on the home network. So you should be able to switch the divert on when you are on O2 but not when you're abroad.

Is the ** system not a "universal" one that has been developed?

?? But I could to a British mobile number!

Anyway, I thought **21* was an unconditional divert?

Also they won't work if the phone is prepaid.

I say again, does anyone know why my contract O2 IRL phone will happily divert to a British mobile number using **21*# commands but obstinately refuses to do so to a French mobile number via the same commands?

I've no idea Cula. I used to work for them and learned all the gsm codes but that was never discussed, nor did I come across it during my time!

Diverting calls will NOT work on o2 prepay. This service will only operate for billpaying customers.

It doesnt matter if you want to divert your call to England, Japan, Spain or Iraq. It doesnt matter what code you use - the O2 Network will NOT divert your calls.

Is the French number a prepay or bill pay?..

That makes no difference either way.

Thanks for that: it made sense for me to divert to a 3UK mobile while abroad because I have the international add-on (no charge for the divert) and I then pay the equivalent of only 14c to receive on it as opposed to O2 IRL's charge for roaming MT calls.

But it would make even more sense to divert to my French mobile and pay zero cent at all at all.

Read this sentence while standing on one leg eating pizza and pleasuring a sheep that's standing on top of a horse that's in a field next to a cow who can't read unless it's written backwards.
