    hey,

i had ntl broadband in another room from our telly room and this involved a cable being inserted into this room for the broadband from the attic.
My qustion is, since this cable is now idle if i change the connection on the cable to connect to a television would i be able to tune in ntl's basic channel service?

how would i determine if the connection is still active?
no techincian called around to do anything, they just disabled the broadband

Connected a tv up to it and see if you can tune in any channels

i couldnt pick up any channels when i tried to tune them in.
the cable was the same cable that goes into the cable modem, i just changed the connection to a t.v one although on inspection the copper/brass wire was thinner looking then a normal t.v cable
Should i try a proper t.v cable or would the cable i used have worked but ntl had cut off the signal?

    Hi

The best test is to bring the TV down to where you have the main TV, tune the TV there after bring it upstairs, plug into the same cable that you used to have the broadband and that should work. Did the tech guy also remove the box? if it didn't try both plugs.

If the cable came to the attic probably was from the main box outside the house, did the tech guy go up a ladder to disconnect it?

    Regards

If you already have digital tv in your main room, the analogue cable is free of charge in the room where you previously had broadband. The cost of the analogue cable is already built into your bill. They don't disconnect it if you downgrade your service.
