dlink router: has stopped recognising internet

    hi
I got a new laptop which would not recognise my wireless router - so I used the installation disk for the router
it now recognizes the router but 1. with WPA disabled 2. when installing the router it will not complete installation , says there is a problem with the WAN connection

The laptop connection I can fiddle with in time but I need to be able to use the internet from the office in a different room

The internet (Chorus cable) works fine through the ethernet port, but means lugging the pc into the living room

I've read the FAQ, but can't find any obvious solution

I tried running with a fixed IP address after first taking print screen of IPconfig when connected directly

but its looking for a DNS suffix or something which I can't locate (DNS on ipconfig shows as chello.ie)

Any help would be appreciated as I've got my boss to agree to me working from home on occasion and presently not an option!!

    thanks

oh its a dlink DI 524

so... you mean the laptop doesn't pick up the wireless signal, ya?

Well, it works when you plug it in, so sounds to me like the wireless configuration on th router might not be correctly set. Try setting the wireless channel to 1 or 2, turn on WPA with either TKIP or PSK and give it a good passphrase. Make sure MAC filtering is turned off, and let the router do the address work with DHCP. Your laptop software (depending on the manufacturer) should pick up the required settings automatically, all you'll have to do is type on the passphrase!

(i know, it all sounds soo much easier than it usually is!)

sorry for not getting back sooner - no access
no it finds the network, but not when a pasphrase is set - so at moment unsecured

when i try and secure it using th dlink cdrom it proceeds so far and says "problem with WAN connection" or something similar and this happens on every attempt

I wondered if i could set it manually but dunno what to put in the dns field

would be great if i got sorted
from memory i have a vague notion when i first got it had the same problem - but for the life of me can't recall solution

please help - i wanna try work from home some morning - would really apprecaite

should i reset router (again) and try from there
