Quickly transferring files from one computer to another

Is there any way to quickly transfer files from one computer to another? I just got a new laptop (\o/), and I'm trying to transfer everything over. Trouble is, I've mountains of music and other big files, and all I have to transfer them is a 512mb memory stick. It's taking forever, shutling back and forth between the two. Is there any way to connect them (via USB lead or anything) that'll speed it up?

    Cheers.

Network them together with a crossover cable, assign each nic an ip address in the same subnet and then map the drives you want to copy from. Hey presto.

I should have specified, I know very little about the technical side of computers. Your post was gibberish to me :).

    Is there any easy way?

Chances are you'll get the best transfer rate by burning the files onto DVD

you can purchase usb to usb "network" cables that allow you to transfer files over usb from one computer to another. maplin sell them, or you could try searching ebay for "usb network". here's an exmaple... http://www.linkusb.com/

No one thought of an external hard drive that will suit the non technical?!?!?

Ok, it's 500GB, TONSSSS of space, but prices are droping rapidly.

Simply plug it into the mains and into a free USB socket and away you go. Much like using your pendrive, only 1,000x bigger. Plus it will act as a backup to your new laptop.
