media sharing option doesnt even appear in wmp11 (win xp pro)

    im trying to stream videos to my xbox 360 from my pc but the media sharing
    option doesnt even appear in the library tab or in options where the
    configure sharing is shaded out, it shows up fine on my laptop but not in the
    pc, i would really appreciate any help with this because im going mad
    wondering why this wont even show up on my pc when it works fine on my laptop

    I'm not a gamer so ain't familiar with the xbox but have you enabled UPnP on the desktop? It involves changing a setting with the Windows firewall.

    Open My Network Places follow the link to 'Show icons for networked UPnP devices'. If it says 'Hide ...' then UPnP is already turned on.

    i have upnp enabled but i cant find 'Show icons for networked UPnP devices' in my network places

    right, i went into services and found that the wmp media sharing service is disabled so i tried to start it and got this message: the wmp network sharing service service on local computer started and then stopped. some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the performace logs and alerts service. so i tried enabling the performance logs and alerts service but got the same message
