Connecting a laptop to wireless

    I hope this is the right forum, if not can the MOD please move it?

    I have a Belkin wireless modem that I bought a year or so ago and my PC is hooked upto it by wire and my laptop by secure wireless connection.

    I have bought the wife a new laptop for Christmas but like a fool I can't remember what the code/password is to enable the new laptop to connect to my wireless modem - my laptop automatically connects to it when I switch it on.

    Can anyone advise how I can find out what the password is or maybe how to reset it?

    thanks

    I'm probably gonna be talking complete giberish to you here, though you basically need to go into the wireless settings on your wireless router and generate a new WEP password.

    The easiest way to do this is....

    => Start,
    => Run,
    => cmd
    => ipconfig /all

    You should see an entry there for default gateway, it should be something like 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x (x should either be 0,1 or 254)

    Basically just open a web browser while connected with your old computer and enter an address of http://192.168.0.x (^ address from above)
    You might have to use an admin account to log onto the router...usually username: admin and password: 1234 or admin also.

    You should then see all the settings for the Belkin router and there will be a field for Wireless. Unfortunately I cant tell you what this looks like as I dont really know belkin routers though there should be a button to generate a new WEP password or you should see the old one there. It should be something with a mixture of numbers 1-9 and letters A-F or it may even show a passphrase....

    Sorry if this is confusing, someone might know a better way round it for you..but thats how I would do it!...

    Hope this helps.:)
