Ive never done a J1 in New York but im thinking about going over alone this summer too. Ive been to New York a few time on holidays and loved it. Ive heard people say theres an area in Queens where most Irish people stay.

Theres a long thread on page 2 of this forum on doing a J1 in New York which ive been finding pretty useful. Sorry cant be more helpful
