    Hey guys,
    First timer so be gentle!!!
Anyone know of any shops in Dublin city centre that sell low carb bread, tortilla's or pasta. I'm on a low carb diet (which is really, good ). There has to be somewhere around but I just can't seem to find anything and I NEED BREAD!!! :D

unless you have some sort of weird and wonderful medical condition that causes you to require bread to prevent you from spontaneously combusting, no you don't.

Giving up bread can be tough at first, as a nation we have a *major* psychological dependancy on it but trust me, after a few days without it you'll wonder what all the fuss was about - no bloating, no gas, better energy - bread is SOOOO over-rated!!!

Yep I know. Its been a while since I have had any. I think its just how much easier low carb bread would make things. I think its just the preparation etc that goes into food while your on this diet that makes it sometimes difficult .

I used to think that too, but then I realised that bread was just a crutch for my laziness :o

I can honestly say that my meal-making takes less time than it used to now - a steamer cooks my meat and my veg and I don't have to wait around for pasta to boil. Go on, kick the bread habit, you know a flat tummy is worth it!!! :p

    hehe..mm but what a crutch it is;O)

Yeah your right, I have been off it for a week now and it is getting easier, just when i'm training alot I eat like a horse and sometimes need a quick fix.

I think its a bit of a shock to the system for a Irish male to be without bread aswell!!

yup, it sure is!! I'm presuming if you're training hard but low-carbing that you're trying to lose fat? Are you training for sport or is it just aesthetics?

70g flaxmeal (this is just ordinary flaxseeds that have been throw into the blender for a couple of minutes)
    2 eggs
    1 tbs olive oil
    1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cocoa powder plus sweetener (optional)

Mix everything to a wet dough.
Pour into a greased or silicon baking tin (small)
    Put into a pre-heated over at 200C
    Bake for 16-18 minutes.
It's done when a toothpick comes out clean.

This has the texture of a moist flatbread, or chocolate muffin.
It's very easy, my children bake it for themselves.
It keeps well in the fridge.
It is pretty high in calories, so cut thin slices and don't go mad.

Oh, another possible option is the GG Scandinavian crispbreads available from Holland and Barret. They are 85% bran, and taste it, but they are crunchy and you can spread your cheese on them.

Ok thanks for the help guys. Its weird though the longer you go without it the less you seem to crave its nearly two weeks now and it is getting easier. But thanks for the help appreciate it.

It does get easier and you find that you can eat out in restaurants and with friends and stick to your diet.

There's some good low carb recipes here http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=143

Eileen... wow. That is just a sexy recipe, thank-you. High in Alpha-Linolenic Acid omega 3, protein, fibre, monunsaturated fat. It's just fantastic. Bookmarked the link you posted too.

I've just heard from someone who said she ran out of flaxmeal while making this, so added about 20g of psyllium husk instead to make up the difference, and it turned out really well.

I haven't tried it that way yet, but I'll have a go next time I'm baking.
