    Hi,

I have put my 1985 MR2 off the road for the winter & want to paint the subframes, Anti-roll bars etc (along with many other jobs!!). with some type of anti-rust paint. I have used Hammerite in the past on the chassis of my camper but found it pretty useless. What do you use. Any recommendations?

    T.

I use galvafroid on a lot of stuff and find it quite excellent once you remove all the rust before painting.

I use POR15 (chassis kit) on various underside bits of the Alfa's, very good stuff but don't get it on your hands...

Are Galvafroid or POR15 available in Ireland or do they need to be got from the UK? Is Galvafroid a paint?

I got the POR15 from Frosts, I've not seen a local vendor for it.

I use Galvafroid on loads of jobs, from boat trailers to cars. Its available in most hardware suppliers. It's a very viscous and heavy paint, that is supposed to have galvanising properties. Don't know about the science behind it, but it seems to work very well.

I was talking to a guy who restores Morris Minors for a living about this. He recommended zinc primer followed by chassis black, didn't specify any brands though. I'd imagine you'd want to want to remove any rust first before painting.
