Depends how much and what type of gear you need to carry. I've got the Lowepro Slingshot AW 200 and the bigger version AW 300 (which i like best). Both are excellent bags but are designed to carry camera gear only. Lowepro also do a great range of backpacks.

    Hope this helps.

I recommend the Crumpler range as well. Pixels have them.

Hold a reasonable amount of kit but look like ordinary rucksacks which is good for security. Much better build quality than most of the alternatives as well.

    same here
    I have the pyjama pride
very safe (zip is on the "inside" of the straps) and it doesn't look like a camera bag

not very roomy inside, i strugle to get camera with grip and even a small lens attached and a couple of biggies and flash, not much more left

Crumpler Daily series are quite good if you fancy a shoulder slung bag.

I have the second largest one. Can fit a 17in widescreen laptop and cables, 1D mkIII with 70-200 2.8L IS, 5D with grip and 24-70 2.8L, 580ex, Canon 50 1.4, and all the other generic goodies, inc. 2 60in reflectors.

Is pretty much rainproof, very comfortable to boot.

Thanks, so many choices. All I need to carry are a body and std lens, I have two other std lens, a sigma 100-400 (with mpod) and flash. No need for laptop space.

What the smallest bag I should look at for that amount of gear? I've got our of the habit of using a bag but I need to start again, always looking for batteries, extra media, wipes etc.

Well, what makes you think backpack over shoulder slung?

Backpacks are great when carrying a lot of camera gear, but shoulder bags are great when just bringing a camera, lens, and a few other bits and pieces. No need to stop to take the camera out/change lenses. A backpack is a bit more hassle.

Check out the Lowepro Stealth series too.
