Supposedly Jim White (Rangers fan btw) and Charlie Nic made a couple of Ron Atkinson/Rodney Marsh like unguarded gaffs during HT at Celtic game against Shaktar on Sky Sports - little did they know that some of the live feeds to Australia we still running.

I think its a disgrace tbh that remarks like this were made in such a casual manner and if English commentors made comments like this during an Ireland rugby game they would be hung out to dry.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/ne...6908-20182901/

SKY TV presenter Jim White was caught on air mocking Celtic fans over the potato famine.

And he was joined in his jibes by former Parkhead hero Charlie Nicholas.

Sky Sports anchor White appeared to think his microphone was off as he chatted with pundit Nicholas at halftime during Wednesday's Champions League clash.

Hearing the crowd sing The Fields Of Athenry, White was heard to say: "Oh here we go again, the tottie famine."

Nicholas replied: "Aye, and they're all eating chips singing this."

Fans watching online via a foreign internet sports channel were stunned to hear the exchange.

Last night, Sky said they were investigating.

Did not surprise me that White said something like this. It does surpeise me that Nicholas agrees with him!

I think it was crisps rather than chips as you cannot get chips in Celtic Park

That shows he is a bigot. Much like big ron called Desailly a lazy ******.
Now if it was the other way around then we sould have a 5 page thread discussing in detail how shinners at celtic park are the scum of the earth, such is the revisionist agenda by many members on this politics board.

How is it offensive, exactly? He wasn't attacking or mocking the famine, just referring to it in a detached, light-hearted way.

It doesnt show he is a bigot. It should take a lot more than a joke in private to prove bigotry.

The famine was 160 years ago, Ireland has recovered since then. There is nobody who is alive now who was directly affected by that event not who bears any responsibility. The joke was a reaction to the Celtic fans singing a song about the Irish famine while they were eating a bag of chips (or crisps or whatever) As has been said, it was fair comment and quite funny and not intended to deliberately insult anyone because it was said in private.

There is nothing wrong with making satirical comments about historic events.

If he had said something like "Bloody Irish, I wish they'd have another famine, that'll sort them out" then we might have something to talk about.

(for the record, I don't know anything about these men, i'm basing this opinion purely on this one comment)

    funny

Is Bigot the most overused word on these forums? The famine was a long time ago. If comedians can make jokes on stage about the Holocaust (and they do and they get laughs!) then 2 guys in private can have a joke about the famine. There is no story here. :)

the famine was 1848 or thereabouts
    can we move on?

Of course people can move on, maybe some one can point to the joke from White since everyone seems to think the whole thing was a funny joke

celtic fans arent so innocent either, e.g. hello hello we are the ladyboys and the blouse my father wore are direct skits of rangers songs. all this of course only bothers celtic and rangers fans, to everyone else its a non story

celtic and rangers are like a comedy act. they are like northern ireland, suffering from an identity crisis....;)
