Hi, if been trying to order clothes from them for two weeks now.
Anyone else been having a problem??

Firstly i set up an account entered my address credit card details, the usual, and got an email

'Thank you for ordering from ae.com. We began processing your order as soon as you placed it. For this reason, orders cannot be changed or cancelled once they are placed. You will receive a shipping confirmation e-mail as soon as we ship your order.

Use this number to track your order:
    Order Number: W5594333
    Order Date: 11/17/2007'

that was fine until i got this email

    'Dear AE shopper,
Thank your for shopping at AE.com, but we were unable to receive credit
authorization from your credit card company and are unable to process your
    order.
If you would like to re-process your order, please call 1.866.338.2389 and a
representative will be happy to further assist you Monday - Friday, 8-5pm
    EST.
Thanks for being a part of the American Eagle brand and we´re sorry for this
    inconvenience.
    Your friends @ AE.com'

so i did what they said, i rang and left my contact details only to get another email

    'Dear AE Shopper,

Thank you for your recent call.

To enhance security to our customers we have instituted several new checks on orders to ensure the order is not being placed fraudulently. Your order was pulled for this verification process. Therefore your order was not allowed to process further.

If you would like for us to again attempt to receive the authorization necessary to process the order please send a fax a copy of your most recent billing statement and drivers license/state id to 724-779-7891, please include your order number. If you have any further questions please call 1-866-338-2389 between the hours of 8-5 EST, Monday- Friday.

Thanks for being a part of the American Eagle brand!

    Sincerely,
    Your Friends @ AE.com'

i really didnt want to send my license and a bill over through fax.

So i set up a new account, a new email address and i got the first email again, but nothing since and when you track the order online it just says 'processing'

    and ideas??

    thanks

Unless AE are complete halfwits, then they'll more than likely match your two accounts and you'll end up looking even more suspicious.

The reason why it's not going through could be that they're trying to verify the address including a zip code, which we don't have. This is often the cause of cards being declined. The request for ID is common enough, as they just want to confirm that you are the card owner.

Did you try ringing them during their office hours so you could speak to someone rather than just leave a message?

I got through after 8 attempts.

They said the problem was that they need to get the card Authorised by the bank.

    Sounds a liggle bit fishy.

    What ya all think?

Any update on this, was going to place an order.

Also, how long does the shipping usually take from the website.

I wouldn't blame AE for being cautious when accepting new customers as it's almost impossible to fight a mail order\internet order chargeback.

Most online retailers do security checks inc address verification so as to reduce the risk of chargebacks. Their system would be setup for US credit cards where the zip code can be easily matched to the card

i have still gotten no where, nothing materialised with my second order, and after numerous phone calls i have never gotten through...:mad:

Did you fax them your details?

I can't blame AE on this one, all they know is that a foreign credit card is trying to order from them... American Eagle are a pretty big brand so would hardly be out to defraud you and would not ask for those documents for no reason.

Still have not got very, probably should have used American Express Card??

Anyway, so i got through, got told to send a fax of the items.

Did this but no reply as of yet.

I rang them again today and they told me that if i do not have an email from them by close of play tonight to ring them tomorrow and that they will put the order through, ie. go look for my fax!

So *hopefully this can be sorted by tonight, and my items can get here before Christmas!

Using an Irish American Express card wouldn't make any difference, it would stlll show up as a foreign card and they would still be unable to authorise the transaction in the normal way

My items arrived in Portlaoise on the 19th, yesterday.

Wonder will they get delivered before Chrimbo and i wonder if i will get stung, all to be found out soon enough!

Yea, I really wanted to order stuff from them, but wasn't sure whether the ID and other details were still needed, so just going to wait until after Christmas. Fast Shipping.

I'd say you wouldn't incur customs judging by other's experiences but let us know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

I have my threads and they fit!!

I got done by customs, think you always will because the box lists your items and the subtotal. So it's an easy target.

    80 blips

So cost me 300 all in all.

Probably won't do it again unless i see something i reallly like. ;)

Is it worth the effort guys?? I put an order in last friday.. Got an email over the weekend with the same content as listed above. Was not happy about it because the phone number was no number listed on the ae.com site. I rang them yesterdayt (not the number in the email but the one on the official web site). I was asked some questions and the kind lady on the end of the phone said all was fine. Checked email this morning and still the same issue. I'm really not happy about faxing these details to a company that's just gonna keep a paper copy of these details on file.... How many ppl will have access to these details. They may be doin this for security but how secure are our details that we've to send to them.
