Idris Elba (AKA: Stringer Bell)

    I'm only after finding out tonight that Idris Elba, who plays Stringer Bell, is a Londoner. So both Stringer Bell and Jimmy McNulty are played by english actors.

    There's an interview with him on youtube discussing his role in The Wire. They talk about stuff that happens in season three so if you've not finished that season don't search for the interview cos it'll spoil it for you (i didn't link to it for that reason).

    Idris Elba was also in a great 6 part TV show years ago about Vampires. It was called Ultraviolet: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169501/

    It is a great accent he puts on. He can also be seen more recently in 28 Weeks Later.

    Dominic West's accent is not as good but still better than most.

    Also Tommy Carcetti is played by an Irishman,Aiden Gillen. Another very good accent there as well.

    Idris is in American Gangster too, he has a small role in it mind you.

    Aiden Gillen gets the acting kudos from me. To seeinglessly go from playing a gay Englishman to a Italian American mayor from Baltimore, Maryland was amazing.

    yea i read in another post here about Aiden Gillen. I didn't know he was Irish before then. He does a great job with Carcetti.

    A few weeks ago there was a program hosted by Charlie Brooker on Sky Anytime all about The Wire and had interviews with most of the main characters which is where I found out they were English.
