Laser eye surgery, do I need to give up contact lenses first?

I've been wearing contact lenses almost daily for the past 12 months, my optician told me back then that I would probably have to stop wearing lenses for a few months before getting laser surgery. Is that correct?

    Thanks

I believe so, for certain procedures. Lenses can temporarily deform the eye but the surgery relies on their pre-op measures being consistent with your eyes' natural shape. If you take the plunge and get a surgery consultation with a reputable provider, they will tell you how long you will need to go without.

i think i read somewhere that it was 3 months you'd to just wear glasses for

i think i'm right in saying i read that coz i was horrified that i'd have to wear my glasses for that long but then someone made a fair point that i wouldn't have to wear glasses or lenses at all after laser... so would be worth it!

No no no no no!!! I got laser done months ago, I had to stop wearing my lenses for a WEEK prior to my assessment/consultation. Lenses can change the shape of the cornia, which will normally return to normal given a few days. This may be SLIGHTLY longer/shorter depending on how often you wear the lenses (Apparently you should wear glasses one day a week anyway...) ;)

If you are suitable for the surgery, then another week of glasses wearing is required prior to surgery - BUT if you get the consultation and surgery done in the same week then the first week covers that.... For example, I got mt consultation done on a Monday, got the surgery done on the Thursday so I actually only had to wear the glasses from the previous monday - ie a week and a half....

The freedom of the surgery is graet so worth putting up with glasses fo ra week or two! Its like a novelty!lol

    Good luck!

That is speaking from my experinece and that of many poeple that I know who have got it done... I guess it all comes down to the "damage" or change caused by the lenses which will vary from person to person but from personal experoence, a month seems a bit long. I guess a consultation is the only to know......
