Seeking advice on knocking down kitchen wall

I live in a dormer bungalow and wish to knock down a stud wall between the kitchen and another small room in order to enlarge the kitchen. The wall is plasterboard over a wood frame. I don't need to knock the whole wall down but enough to give a wide entry with an arch if possible. My problem is that I'm not sure if this is a retaining wall. Some have said that if its a stud wall, then its not a supporting wall. Others have said that it could still be a supporting wall. I would appeal for some knowledgeable advice as I will not attempt to do this until I know for sure.
