    Hi,
Upgrading my digital camera to a good amateur landscape camera. Thinking of Canon EOS 400D with suitable lens as it has such publicity. Any advice.
    cheers

Up until now I've used a 400d with a Canon 10-22mm wide angle USM lens (for landscape shots), found it great. Best of luck!

Looking to get a 10-20MM Canon myself soon,

    Can't fault the EOS 400D , I'd recommend it :)

Seems to be a real marketing push on at the moment for the 400D. Loads of TV and paper ads.

Have mine just over a week and loving it. Now I've had a chance to do some research am ready to try some new stuff this weekend!

For one - it's only feckin' NOVEMBER!!

For two, what I really meant was it's the only camera that seems to be actively marketing to get people away from compacts.

Thats cause the compact market is saturated with cheap cheap camera's, so they know DSLR is the only way to actually make the big money

Unless you buy a Canon Powershot G9 in a shop. Was in a shop this morning that was charging EUR629 for that.

I ordered it on Ebay (kerso - off ebay) this mornig for 380.

I've seen plenty of ads for the Nikon D40 series... they have a special money back and extended warranty offer out right now too. They are outselling the 400D too (at least in Japan and the US).

But for landscape photography the OP may benefit from weather-sealing - I hear the Pentax K100D has that (and is in the budget camera category) - may be worth a look. Also has the built in image stabilisation so all lenses become IS/VR lenses.

    cheers guys for the info.
I had been looking at the Nixon also but i think Canon is an old reliable. If anyone has good websites for various lens etc for the 400D because shops are a rip off like you say.

Well Nikon has been making lenses for Canon from the beginning...its camera heritage is just as good (if not better than Canon). But not as good as Leica (or Kodak apparently! - thank you "Genius of photography"!)

There's a thread dealing with where to buy camera equipment on a sticky.
