    Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a good deal on a camcorder. The only requirement is that it takes DVDs not miniDV.
    anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks!

I would suggest Peats is a good place to look. Please take this the right way when I say that you'd be mad to purchase a dvd based camera. If you can look to a hard disk based one, but if your budget doesn't go to that, then Mini-dv offers superior quality and almost the same features for far less.

Mini-dv footage is not compressed onto the tape when recorded, this means you can copy the content to your pc and edit it in a lot of applications.

dvd based recorders compress the content as they record, this reduces the quality to ensure you fit the maximum amount of time per disc. The problems start when you try to edit. The first thing is that you are editing already compressed footage, then when you want to make a normal dvd out of it, you have to re-compress it to the standard mpeg2.

Its your money and your choice and I'm not trying to turn you off, but just offer some friendly advice.

    Good luck,
    Howard

The HDD cameras also compress but usually no where as much as the DVD cameras. It's all much ado about nothing in the end, but at least you know.

    Cheers
