Some people are hot, some are not. I'm attracted to the hot ones, and not to the not ones.

But there is no unifying characteristic among the hot ones, and there is no obvious missing characteristic among the not ones. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts etc etc. Some are attractive for one reason, others are attractive for another.
