How good this is and whether it's worth buying or not will depend on how good the hand writing recognition is.

I found a review here, that looks like it's the same one. Seems to be a thumbs up from that guy. His one was 10 euro cheaper though.

I saw this on the Aldi site and it does seem like a handy device. The reviewer also mentions it works with Linux using software available from FreshMeat. He didn't mention if the OCR (Text Recognition) works with Linux though, I'd assume not, but maybe there's Linux software that'll do that as well.

There was a discussion a while back about the tablet not the Notepad. Opinions seemed mixed - good price but don't expect miracles basically.

Believe it may be a rebadged Aiptek.
May work with Mac OS X - not clear if full functionality.

I'd be wary of the paper pad + tablet combo though - had something like it years ago for Palm Pilot - messy with batteries and loose bits and so on. Still - for College use it could be good - discreet, silent, and if for some reason your data is not digitally recorded at least you have the written version.

I'm thinking about buying one of these to use for taking notes in meetings in work - would be such a handy way of gathering all my notes if it manages to recognize my terrible handwriting.

I'd only use it for the occassional diagram - is it worth a punt to see if it handles text recognition well? Think I'll chance it cos I think they have a 30 day no questions asked refund policy.

Just picked one up there an hour ago and tried using it.
Installed drivers, software and connected the device to my windows 7 laptop.

The device wrote in the wrong direction, for example when I was writing normally on the notepad in the right direction as you do, but on the screen it was been written in the down direction.

So right was down, Left was up, down was right. It was all messed up.
I read through the instruction manual and could find nothing to fix the directional problem. Nothing to do with direction was even printed in the manual. I looked though whatever settings I could find which was very few in the toolbar icon and found nothing that would help either.

I found this thread while searching for others who may have had the same problem.

Now it may be down to me picking up a faulty one but Lidl is bringing out their version tomorrow of a Digital Notepad so I boxed the Aldi one back up and getting a refund tomorrow and making my way to Lidl.

That's my quick review of it anyway
Go for the one in Lidl tomorrow, same price and it looks better too.

Yikes.... - Just notiched this thread was from 2007 - Googles fault I posted in here :O
