Launch day console survived until i traded it in against a PS3
(360 launch window was quiet at the time, and knew the elite was due)

My first Elite's DVD drive died after about 20 hrs of use and was replaced by the retailer with no quibble.

Elite number 2 is fine... so far.

First console i got the 3 red lights so that was replaced. The replacement was acting a bit dodgy so i traded it in for an elite.

Waiting on my 1st replacment to be returned from repair.

Was the drive that went, no red lights (13 months old)
Out of all the folk I know whith a 360 mine's the only one that died.

Interesting, so far its kinda flying in the face of what alot of people have been saying, with most 360s breaking, when so far the vast majority on their first.

The one I bought on the day of launch back in 2005 Red Ringed on me there last Saturday.

I've already replaced it with an Elite... I have yet to get one to Microsoft about fixing my old one.

I think we need to know how long people have had them to determine that for sure.

If 20 people have only got there's within the past 6 months, the stats are skewed.

Good idea for a poll.
Im just curious - for those who have got the RROD, how long do you tend to leave it on for at once and whereabouts is it located (i.e. in a cabinet etc..)?
There must be some common denominator for all these failures.
Oh, and mine has been OK (touch wood) since last Christmas.

Mine is behind my TV with a bit of space between the two (like a foot or a little less). I leave it on for 3-4 hours at a time but have used it for entire days sometimes.

I have my premium console since about March last year. So far so good, no problems with it. Its used daily by 2 of us.

No complaints here.:D

i'm waiting for my 5th xbox overall, third since the begining of september this year.

They have said they are sending me a new console, as opposed to 'fixing' the one i am sending them. Getting Gears of War (already have it though...) and a play and charge kit too.

People will always be more vocal when they've got a broken 360, reading forums like this don't really give a good indication of how reliable the console is. I've had a console from launch day that still working as well as the day I bought it (touch wood).

Mine was bought last christmas and has been put to good use since then. This thread scares me, I cannot afford to have it break down!

well haven't MS confirmed that this effects 30% of consoles, don't know where I got that figure but heard it being thrown around

currently awaiting the second repair, I bought an elite too though so I own 2 360s

That's fair funny, when it broke the second time, I was like "FCUK SAKE, I'm buying a PS3" then after about 3 seconds I came to my senses and bought a second 360

I had mine repaired, motherboard replaced.
I'm actually surprised how many repairs have taken place. Looks like the 33% figure was spot on...

got mine x-mas 06.
Stephens day 06 disc drive broke.

Replacement number 1, xtravision replaced very helpful.

Few months ago red rings. Exchanged.
Console 3 lasted 3 minutes and then it happened again.
Brought that back and got a whole new rig (before kepy power lead box thingy)

Now on console 4, working nicely no worries, havnt had to deal with microsoft once.

Full marks to xtravision.

I'm still on my 1st premium which I got around the start of summer, no problems at all (touch wood ). It only got 4 rings before,which was terrifying until I realised what the problem was...

Bought mine second hand about 6 months ago, so far no sign of any red lights... My internal fans certainly seem to be working, sounds like a jet taking off half the time .

Have mine since the second batch after launch. No problems at all. Never even had a game crash on me.

Got my first one last december, red ring of death in july/aug. got a brand new replacement from Bill, fine ever since. I use it at least 4/5 hours a day!

my launch 360 lasted 14 months , smyths replaced it for me with a new one that lasted around 7 months .

since then i have bought an elite ( when halo 3 came out ) , which i'm very happy with as i love having the extra space on the hard drive and traded in my other 360 once i got it back from microsoft towards a ps3.

have to say that in my house the 360 gets alot of use from myself and the kids.

Got my first in june 06, that broke in dec06. Got another straight away, that broke in july07, on my 3rd now, and no probs YET. I think they just overheat too easily.

On my second. The first was a launch one, went tits up after about 6 months, my second has been working grand since. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I was in the same situation as you but I bought the PS3!!!! I think I'll trade my one in for an elite when I get it back. What do they generally check/ look for when you are trading up?

By the way mine is a launch day console that is currently just back from a second repair.

I know a guy who bought a 360 and got the RROD after a few months....didnt get around to repairing it yet..then he got a ps3 and a week later he got the disc read error that seems to be happening to the new 40gb models :)

Got 3 red rings last weekend

Called it in last Sunday but still trying to get MS to give me a UPS doc so I can have it collected.

So 4 days after calling it in they haven't even managed to send me the shipping doc.

Part of me is tempted to get an elite so I can play mass effect etc.

But that means I'll have spent a grand since last August on 360 hardware when all I want is one bloody functioning console.

I think mine is now about a year and a half old or so. Just get the occasional one red ring and it complianing about some video error I think but that always goes away after a reboot.

I'm on replacement number 2 (actually a new on MS gave me). I had some real hassle, but I still love my 360!

I didn't know that was an option till Monday (they never offered it to me). I only found out that after I read it on here.

And once they've set the return up with posting out the doc, they can't change that without canceling the order.

Which I made them do today cos I never received the doc that they sent ( assuming they actually sent it out).

Anyway, that happened this morning and haven't received anything by email yet.

Got mine last Christmas, so 11 months old. No problems really. Funny thing is, with the bad reputation it has I was worried something would go wrong with it. I bought a Wii in May, by July I had to send it back because video processor got fried. So, you know, there you go...

So the poll is pretty much in agreement with the press , approx 33% failure rate. ( not counting multiple fails ) .

Thats hardly the 2 -5% microsoft are still claiming , and a truly brutal performance for any piece of hardware , they should have been recalled and all replaced with Elites. ( or at least a proven good model ).
