Last monday I came back into work after weekend. When I browse sites like Boards or wherever, I usually delete their entries from the history. Won't stand up to scrutiny, but it'll pass the glance test if anyone is snooping.

When I checked the history as normal, I found alot of porn links in there. As it was monday now, they had all been amalgamated into "Last week" so I don't know what specific day it was, but I know that it wasn't before friday, if you get me.

I mean ALOT of porn links.

Now, only myself and the Boss would have access to this particular machine. I wouldn't begrudge a man his looking at porn, but there were other machines only he has access to that he could have used. So why my one? Was it really him? He's the one who tells me not to be looking at ****e. He's also a fully qualified network administrator with alot of experience amongst other things, so he could surely have covered his tracks if he wanted to ;)

So what I want to know is, as it seems so unlikely that it was him, and I know it wasn't me, and there really is no way it could have been any third party, could a virus or spyware have done this? There was a virus incident last week, but I've never heard of any that just fills your history with porn sites? There were cookies but no saved images in the temporary internet files folder. you'd expect there to be alot of saved images, which makes me wonder if it was him.

He really doesn't seem the type :o

    Any ideas?
    Thanks alot

could a virus or spyware have done this?
Most definitely. Viruses can re-direct you to porn sites all the time. If you have a backdoor infection it can do a lot worse. Especially if you had a virus problem earlier in the week, the infection could still be active.

I would recommend you don't make any accusations just yet. Although it may not be virus related, so you might want to make sure you don't get blamed for it !

If you want to get rid of all the traces, you should run CCleaner and set it to "Guttman Pass". Simply deleting cookies or your history won't be sufficient for any in-depth look.

Do as admiralofthefleet says and also to a complete scan with SUPERantispyware and a decent antivirus scanner. Should fix the problem. Post back if you're still having problems.

CCleaner got rid of all traces, but that's not kinda what I be looking for. The reason I only ever delete the specific sites and not the whole history etc is because if the place is clean, then it seems like you are trying to hide something ;)

The history has been clean so far this wek, but I'll check it again Monday after the weekend and see if the culprit has struck again :D

Thanks guys, I'll keep ye posted

Chamlis, do you by any chance have contract cleaners who clean the offices over the weekend, or maybe a security guy who makes rounds? Is there some kind of a guest user account on the machine which might allow someone else to access the internet?
