Heroes - Season 1 - €25 at Xtra-Vision (possibly!)

Just heard an ad for Xtra-Vision on the radio and they definitely mentioned Heroes - Season 1 for €25.

I think i heard them say "complete". But for that price, i'd assume it's only 'Part 1' (first 12 episodes). Though they definitely didn't mention it was a 'Part 1 / 2'

Will give my local Xtra-Vision a visit at lunch and give it a shot so.

My local Xtra-Vision didn't have any 'Heroes' DVD's for sale at all.. just Part 1 for rent which makes me think: is the full season 1 available on Region 2 yet even?

God knows what i heard on the radio!

EDIT: Play says it's not released til December 12th!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

OK.. i heard the ad again there. I listened attentively this time and they said:

    "Heroes Season 1 Boxset - only €24.99"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Yup, just heard that too!

"The ever entertaining Heroes Season 1 boxset, only €24.99"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Glad to see i wasn't the only one! :D

Now.. as Play confirms it, the complete season 1 isn't released for another fortnight.

And they wouldn't be advertising it at that price this far in advance, so the only thing i can assume is that they mean 'Heroes - Season 1 - Part 1' for that price.

It would be some bargain if we could get the whole series for that price but its still a good price for just part one, thats €38 on play.com and elsewhere.

I had to do some research for fellow bargain hunters. A trip down to my local Xtra-Vision and I found Heroes Part 1. Episodes 1-11. Cost was €44.99 :(

No sign of any other Heroes boxset, however I didn't ask behind the counter as I was on a work "break"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Don't know what that ad is on about, season 1 part 1 is €44.99 and so will the 2nd part when it is released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭steve 0

This ad was still on @ the weekend and I checked my local Xtra-Vision yesterday. Both half series sets are €44.99 each and the full series is €69.99.
How can they still be running this ad when its obviously wrong?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 867 ✭✭✭Maxwell

Full series on cdwow for 47.99 in case anyone is interested:

not a fan of cdwow myself, but just in case it helps someone

I just called their head office, as is normal for blockbuster you have to leave a message.

Also normal for blockbuster is misleading ads, i'll let you know what happens if they call back.

Just got back to me, she's having a word with the marketing department and then getting back to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

Can anyone confirm which station it was on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

    Email from them just now.

Sorry ch750536, the agency ran the wrong ad the one you heard should be in NI- with £24.99 stg the ROI prices are €44.99: The ad has been withdrawn- according to our marketing dept.
ps there are some on Ex rental Sereis 1 Pt 1 at €29.99 - let me know if you are intrested.

£24.99 is about €35, they're adding €9 to that then the robbing bastids.

Yep.. though still not a bad price considering they're charging €65 for it in Virgin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

Taking tax into account, they retail in the north for €29.60, in the south for €37.18.

    or

In the north they pay 80% of what we do.

I wonder is €44 even right though. Just heard the ad on the radio a minute ago and it's €39.99 for season 1 part 2, and then it says complete season 1 also available, but no price. It'd hardly be only €4 more for the complete series over half the series.

ALL of season 1 for €33.4232 EUR delivered

    http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=807787

    Heroes: Season 1 1 $42.67 $42.67
    Subtotal (for 1 product): $42.67
    (*) Estimated shipping cost : $6.46
    (**) Estimated total: $49.13

Not used them myself but that is the price stated and they deliver to Ireland. The running time is 1100 mins, @43 mins per episode that works out as 23 episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

What region code would that be? I can't see it anywhere on the page.

    It'd be Region 1.

Yes, should have pointed that out, you need to be region free (although is anyone not region free these days?)

I had a look at their shipping costs:
Im not too sure but it looks like they charge for seperate discs in boxsets inc. shipping charge ->
USPS International Surface Mail (9 to 20 Business Days)

    $3.49 + $0.99 per item (USD)*

    * Multiple disc sets are counted as multiple item

If so it would bring it up to $53.09 / €36.0632

    dudara wrote: »

Its in the Shipping info & FAQ of the site:
Q: What region are the DVDs you sell?
A: We only sell Region 1 (NTSC) DVD's unless noted otherwise in the title information/synopsis. For Blu-Ray they are coded region A/1 predominately and returns will not be accepted on the basis they won't play in other region code machines even if stating they are region A,B or C. This is due to other region coded machines requiring upgrades to firmware etc to enable them to play. HD-DVD at this time is not region coded but same will apply if region coding is introduced for this format.

    Hopefully that helps :)

Im quoting the price given in the shopping basket when buying the dvd. My figures above are a C&P of my trolley.

Yeah the price i saw was
    Qty Item

    Total

    1 Heroes: Season 1 €28.94

    Sub-total: €28.94

Before checkout & before P+P charges are applied, as i didnt want to go through the trouble of registering!

Its a handy thing to adjust the currency without checking of some currency converter site.

BTW: Whats C&P if i may ask :)

I bought a load of stuff on Amazon US and got nailed by customs duty (VAT)when the delivery man showed up at my door. I hadn't factored in this extra cost when buying

I got Heroes season 1 (complete) from CD-Wow, region 2 (Austrailian) version for €56, but I think it has since gone up to €60...

Ye pretty much :D Not like I buy much there anyway, except some good titles in the 3 for €25 section. Otherwise online is always the best way to go.

I only noticed that after you saying that,

    Members Price: €28.94 / $42.67

    XE.com conversion - 42.67 USD = 29.5724 EUR

As the only time i use XE.com is when you're on Play.com or Sendit.com as they add on extra to the conversion, much to the annoyance of buyers.
