Just wondering what your thoughts are on topics of frequent discussion that I can stickify?

I cannot guarantee that your suggestion will be stickied, but you can be sure that I will give it careful consideration.

I was also thinking of a HTPC useful links thread broken down into sections such as Sellers/Vendors, software options, useful links etc etc.

Cast your votes, its your forum, so let me know what you would like to see.

For someone like me who is just getting a HTPC together, a sticky entitled:
"HTPC - How to get started" would have helped a lot.:D

Vendors for sure. I know about a lot of component suppliers but not that many Irish based finished PC suppliers. Maybe there aren't that many about?

I think a sticky with reliable components listed would be good.

I.E Remotes ,Tv cards ,suitable passive graphics cards ,media controls/keyboards ,website links etc.

I second the suggestion from _Brian_.

Perhaps also in addition maybe have a list similair to what's here :
    http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/tiki-pvrhwdb.php

If people provide enough details, even links to purchasers, it may make it easier for newbies.

Thank you Soup for your efforts!

Software playback. One of the most complicated things I find with htpc's is what players along with what codecs play what file types.
Would be nice for newbies to have: dvd playback use this codec(s) and this player. Mkv playback this codec(s) and this player, etc.

If you try and google its a myriad of info. Just look at the ffdshow thread on avforums.

How about a Quiet parts sticky also , like power supplies , graphics cards , coolers , cases etc.

I am just considering building my first HTPC and I would like to see:

    1) Something around HTPC 'sample' specifications for various budgets e.g.500euro, 1000euro, etc. (Ideally this would be updated over time with inputs from forums members)

    2) A Guide on how to develop a HTPC spec proposal for review on the forum

    3) A sticky for "completed builds" to share with everyone, people could include their pictures also.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I haven't forgotten about this. Im just trying to think how it can all be arranged in an orderly, readable fashion.

More I think of it, the more I'm considering a wiki for Irish HTPC users. I have webspace thats doing nothing majorly useful on hosting365. Hmmmmmmmm.

Well I installed mediawiki on the webspace yesterday, just need to secure it a little. www.overt.ie/wiki and a different domain wouldnt go astray either I guess.

Any ideas on a domain name? Ideally id like to not box it in as a "HTPC" wiki only.
