ok , this idea that kicked off last September here (thanks Al ) , is actually now happening on December 13 through to December 18 , in Spraoi , 4 Marys Abbey of Capel street.
After many last minute panics , its going ahead, website is also available , any feedback welcome

    www.barrydelaney.ie

I'm pretty freaked , but anyone here, who mildly likes my work (and i know many don't , including myself at times) , are welcome to the opening on December 13 at 7:30 , in Spraoi .
I'll have physical invitations on Thursday , if you want one or 2 email me at
    bazdelaney@gmail.com

So hope to see some of you there , for a glass of wine , particularly those who helped and supported me here, throughout the year ....sometimes i don't know what i'm doing in life and this is one of those occasions

    Congrats and good luck!

Image 11 (Ballybough Football Team) is my favourite.

P.S. it's probably not worth mentioning but do you know that file11 is actually url/image10.html, file10 is url/image9.html etc

looking good baz - like image 5!
have you considered going completely monochrome - rather than including a few colour images?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,185 ✭✭✭nilhg

I'd love to be there on the thursday night Baz, but cant guarantee I'll be able to make it. I will be up in the big smoke that week though and will make it my business to drop by.

Well done, you're a brave man to take this through to the end, most of us never get by the talking stage.

Thanks all for the kind words, I can't tell you how nervous I am , last weekend I wanted to pull it , but theres no going back now.
Covey congrats on being the first sale , I might just break even :D

Well Done Barry. Look forward to dropping in to see the exhibition

A suggestion rre the website is to try to protect your images in case anyone saves the picture, prints it off and you are down €100

I did a google and came across http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=41 which talks about step that you could take.

Also on photo 6, is Sheriff St spelt with 1 or 2 r's. You have 2 and I think it is 1. Not mean this in a bad way or criticism but the website looks great and hate that a typo might stand out - maybe of course I cant spell and it does have 2 r's !

well done again and enjoy the next few weeks and the exhibition

thanks Rory the photos are low res , so should be ok , the big expense for me is providing frame etc . but i think a nice frame will be worth it !

Your right about sheriff street , just googled it , came across this image
    http://www.source.ie/issues/issues0120/issue06/is06regleoR2.html

hardly Cartier-esque -- theres hope for us all (especially me) !

Good luck man, i hope to drop in and see some of your work, I know a lot of the people in your photos and like the way you show the real side of dublin rather than the usuall stuff.,
    keep it up.., :)

Congrats Barry, great to see this happening, I remember you discussing this at the start so all the best at the exhibition, it's too far for me to travel but do please keep us all informed here on how it went.

Also, for me image 5 really stands out, what a great pic to exhibit the gulf in modern Irish society.

Well done Barry. I'm not sure I can pick a fav.

Hope the expo goes brilliantly. Would really love to get there, but am unsure. Well done again though.

    Some great pics there.
It's a great achievement to get an exhibition together. There is no need for you to be nervous, I'm sure you can see yourself that your photographs are of great quality.

    Good luck!

    Barry,

Fantastic work, well done on getting the exhibition together.
For me, no. 9 is my favourite, the apparent contrast between old and new Dublin is very well told. Plus it's just a bl00dy great picture!

Hopefully I'll get in to see the exhibition.

    Enjoy it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,742 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

Saw my first framed shot today , Smithfield shutters (No. 9) and it looked good -- the frames looked good, and the printer did a nice job -- so fingers crossed

    They're great, well done!
    I love number 4!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,093 ✭✭✭TelePaul

Some incredible shots, so much character in every picture. I don't think you've any reason to be nervous mate, you should get in touch with Dublin City council, alot of your work is focued on an ireland that may not be here much longer, at least in terms of location.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,196 ✭✭✭PaulieC

    HI Baz,

Was listening to PhantomFM last night and they do an Arts & Exhibitions announcements slot about 10.30 PM. They did say to contact them with details, which I didn't hear correctly :o, but you should contact them and the other Dublin 'stations' (98 and 104) to advertise your gig...free advertising.

Of course you've probably done so already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,093 ✭✭✭TelePaul

Barry have you looked into getting a government subsidy for hosting future events?

Nope -- i'll see how "my first" goes , if i break even and get a favourable response , i'll push through some other ideas.

Spraoi is good cause its kind of do-it-yourself , with little beaurocracy -- and for now thats good -- my mother thinks i'm showing in the National Gallery , shes in for a shock -- not the first i have given her !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,742 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

it was all gone along too well --
got an email from spraoi , to say the venue has currently been closed by Fire marshal , it might be ready in time .
But I'm anxiously looking for an alternative venue at this late stage -- as I really want to go ahead with the 13th .
I'd ordered invites , finger food and wine --

    Any ideas welcome !

    Devestated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

Send a plate of finger food to the Fire Marshal! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,196 ✭✭✭PaulieC

sh1t, that's really bad news Baz, sorry to hear it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭bernard0368

That a real bummer Barry, However keep the faith in my experience the fire officers only use closure when they are been ignored. You may find that the problem is easily resolved. In reading this though http://www.seomraspraoi.blogspot.com/ it seemed very heavy handed and there could be other serious issues.

I hope it works out as I was really looking forward to bringing a few collegues from abroad to see it.

I'm working frantically to get an alternative venue for the 13th as planned , somewhere near city centre.
A few in the pipeline, unless i get definitite go ahead that Spraoi will be ready.

Believe me i need this like a hole in the head at this late stage, after all the work i have put.

    cheers.

I'm giving spraoi , till tomorrow morning , otherwise i have an alternative venue, in Temple Bar , not too far away , and theyre holding it for me -- it will be only for the night thursday 13 , from 7:30 - 10 -30 -- but at least it is definitly happen -- god i love last minute panics like this --

hope something comes up or Sproai comes through.

if you want to chance your arm, contact Arnotts, Clerys, Jervis Centre to see if you can set up stall. Also try Dublin Corporation offices in Wood Quay but footflow would be small or An Post for theGPO. If you dont ask....the worst they can say is No !

At the bridge by the IFSC beside ULster Bank there is a former Art Gallery which has been closed, perhaps the owner might oblige. Further up the quay (turn left wen cross bridge at IRSC) there are some retail units vacant. YOu never know if you contact some of the commercial estate agents, they may oblige you with some space due to the social nature of your photos. Just dont tell them you want to sell photos, emphasise the exhibition element of it

    good luck

    Hopefully Sproai will happen.(here's hoping)
Have you tried the top floor of the Stevens green centre, my brother had a few pic's displayed there about 3 or 4 years ago, and made a few quid.
Anyway best of luck, hope everything goes well for you.

Don't mean to be a downer but definitely go ahead with the new venue, there's absolutely no way Spraoi can obtain a fire cert in a few days, it's just not possible.

Thats what i plan to do , the new location I'm negotiating with is in Temple Bar, probably be a more suitable location overall, currently arranging price etc . It will be just for the nighht , i.e. opening on the 13th , so hopefully most can still attend.

And hope to announce full details of location tomorrow, I can not stress what a last minute hassle this has been.

Have you tried asking any of the colleges (Trinity in particular) if they could let you use a room or two?

i've been in touch with so many places over the past 2 days its unreal, thanks also all here for pms and help.
Most inquiries were heplfull, although some art snobby rude "looking fo a gallery a week before chistmas bla bla"

Anyway , i hope to finalise my Temple Bar spot tomorrow morning , its a good location, but is only for the opening 7-30 -- 10 -30 on the 13th of December.

Then all literature , invites , blurb etc has to be updated.

Southside (not sure about Northside) even had an announcement today with a photo on page 12

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/thebaz/2045188604/

these last minute serious changes are a pain -- but hopefully it will all be sorted-ish tomorrow lunchtime , fingers crossed , and then i can somewhat relax -- thanks all for help , its been about the worst thing that could have happened at this short notice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

    Fingers crossed!

Ok -- the new location is now confirmed , it is only on for one night , December 13 , but i think its a much better location

its on in Filmbase in Temple Bar at 7:30

Exhihibition is in Ground floor of Filmbase

Filmbase, Curved Street, Temple Bar, Dublin

In the heart of Temple Bar , between Eustace street and Temple lane , and directly opposite the Music centre.
    http://www.filmbase.ie/venue/index.php

Hope this all has a positive effect, i know the window is short, just one day , December 13 , but its better than a complete cancellation

    www.barrydelaney.ie

I'm will have updated invitations tomorrow, but feal free to come along anyway between 7:30 and 10 , everything else remains the same , prices of the framed prints 100 euros ,all still limited to 10 along with some wine and finger food

    Barry
