Getting content from NTL DVR to PC/Mac

Not sure if this is possible but does anyone know for sure if there is a way to get recorded programmes off the NTL box and onto a PC/Mac. Preferably a way that doesnt end in me frying my hand or blowing up my apartment trying to take things apart and put them back together?! That ethernet port has to be good for something surely.

On another note can anybody tell me how to stop the damn subtitles automatically turning themselves on every time I switch to certain stations?

    Cheers

i'd guess the simplest way would be to record them onto DVD and then rip them to your hard-drive using a program like DVD-Decryptor.

The Ethernet and USB ports are for the built-in cable modem.

So the only way to get them off would be via the SCART through some kind of video capture card or a PC-TV tuner with an external input.

I have seen reports of people in the UK taking apart various Freeview DVR's, removing the hard disks, managing to hack the file system and writing an IFS (Installable File System) for Windows to be able to just copy the MPEG data direct from the disk. Sounds like a lot of work to me, plus I wouldn't be surprised if the data on the disk on the UPC DVR wasn't encrypted too. (It might also be illegal, although I can't imagine why).

For the subtitles, you have to go into the Main Menu -> Settings -> Pereference Settings -> Subtitle Language -> Off
