Wedding in 6 months-hotel problems

Ok, it is like this! This situation has happened to a relation of mine.

The hotel was booked in April this year, a year in advance. They contacted the couple involved to say that in the New Year they are refubishing part of the accommodation adjacent to the hotel, as in, it will not be available for guest accommodation at the time of the wedding.

The couple paid a deposit in good faith, and booked this accommodation at time of booking earlier on this year. It now transpires that this accommodation is not available for approximately 30 of the guests (due to major refurbishment) - the hotel have not offered alternative accommodation!

We are assuming that the decision to do this refubishment was not done recently!

Has this happened to anybody else? Have the couple any come back? Any advice appreciated

When they booked the hotel (paid origional deposit) they should have received a letter outlining the agreement between them and the hotel. accomodation is something that is normally outlined in the letter. get them to check this out.
