    Hi all
I recently lost my job no reason why given she wont give me a written reference and it really knocked me. It has only been a week and my partner is talking about me leaving with my child as he can't afford to support us. What do i do??? I have no idea where to go with a young child and with no job i'm really worried about who to talk to i want to stay in Galway but can't find any information on the net on what to do being a single mum etc. Life seems to be really going down the pan this xmas.

legally your former employer must give you a reason for your dismissal, and they do have to provide a reference. not necessarily a written one, and it doesn't have to be glowing it can be as simple as "she worked here from a to b". its not the apprentice with Alan Sugar shouting "your fired".

your local citizens advice may be able to point you in the right direction about the job situation, also there may be a relieving officer in the local area that can help you out

I wasnt in long enough only 2 months, they have a revolving door method which i found out a bit too late, all i got was its not working out. I asked for a written reference and she replied they dont do those just phone . I got someone to ring up for reference and she is saying i'm average, when asked about recommendation she says "all im saying is she was average" i knew she didnt like from the first week i was there buit i worked my ass off there and was in early every day

Your partner sounds a bit of a wanker throwing you out just becuase you lost your job. Is the child his?

I won't delve into the more personal aspects of this. On the job side I'd try to look at it positively: You're better off to be out of the place and lucky to have only been there for 2 months. Saying you're average might be infuriating and unfair after you worked your arse off but it won't prevent you getting another job - one where you might have a fairer manager. Contact recruitment agencies, fás etc.
