Does anyone know about holiday visas in the Philippines? Can Irish people travel freely around the Philippines or are there any special visa applications/requirements?

As an Irish passport holder you are free to enter and travel around the Philippines for a period not exceeding twenty-one days. Any longer than this and a Visa is required.

I have been in Cebu a few times. I stayed in the Pacific Cebu Resort once. I wasn't too impressed but it was fine for one night. I am not aware of the place you mentioned but I googled it and it looked pretty nice.

There are other places I can recommend in Cebu, I guess it depends on what you are looking for. You can do alot on a small budget in the Philippines I really like the place. I've been there three times in the last three years.

Feel free to give me a shout maybe I can give you more info.

    Hi,

Was in the philippines in October. We spend a couple of days in manila and a week and a half in boracay.
Philippines is beautiful, very friendly people and cheap, though not as cheap as thailand for good quality accommodation in my opinion.
Boracay is lovely island, only 7km long with a 4km white sandy beach. i really liked the island but it is quite commericalised (though theres no mcdonalds yet) and perhaps we spent too long on the island. 4-5 days would be enough.
There are lots of bars and restaurants and a very pretty mall. we flew to caticlan from manila and there is a short boat trip to boracay. we dont dive so i cant advise you on that.
If you are looking for a paradise island, lovely beach, restaurants, bars, four star accommodation (though there are lots of cheap places) boracay is perfect. if you are looking for more of an "experience" than a lazy holiday, its still worth visiting but might not stay there too long. By the way, the place has the most amazing sunsets.

we travelled a lot in thailand on our last two holidays and decided this year to be lazy and have everything booked in advance. Because we had boracay paid for for 12 nights, we decided to stay put but if we had only a few days booked we prob would have moved on. especially because it was low season i felt it would have been better to book a night or two and take it from there.

    Hope this helps.

Some people we spoke to recommended bohol, I dont know much about it but it might be worth looking into.

I haven't been to the Philippines since 2001, but I travelled there many times in the '90s when I lived in Hong Kong. This idea of a waiver sounds like nonsense. Who would make you sign such a thing? Not the Filipinos who want you to come and spend money, not the Irish Government who could care less (and have no right to care) where in the world you travel... so who?

In general a little common sense, a large amount of patience, and a few US dollars, will go a long way over there.

I'll be there for 3 weeks in January with a couple of toddlers in tow

No. You do not have to sign a waver.

Kidnapping has taken place in the past in the southern end of the country but over all it is a very safe country. Muslims extremists have been known to hide out in the Southern islands close to Malaysia.

Popular spots for westerners are very safe. Cebu, Manila, Borakay etc. Its a Catholic country and most are good people. Travel with an open mind. It's a great place to visit.

Typhoons are common from June to October. The 'rainy season' lasts from June through November with heavy rain & thunderstorms.
