Cracking goal from Ronaldo. Top scorer in the Champions League this season, and 11 goals in his last 11 games. Not too shabby by anyones standards.

ronaldo, once again, does it when its needed.

catching up with fabregas in terms of player of the year so far....theres little between them, infact, ronaldo is now playing better than fabregas....5 champions league goals so far is an incredible return, and 3 of them have been great goals.

I would say that Fabregas has been much better than Ronaldo so far this season. That said, what's nuts about Ronaldo is that he isn't even close to top form yet. His play in general still isn't that high, he's not playing great at all. However, he is still chipping in with big goals and big assists despite that. When he actually hits some form, well, as Kaka said, maybe he'll be the one to take United to the CL final this year.

Big win for United. Now they can play the kids against United, and be totally fresh for the Liverpool game, while Liverpool will have to put out a full strength team.

What do you mean? Liverpool will also have nothing to play for after tomorrow night ;)

    This is funny.

Giles and Brady slating British managers for "lack of knowledge". And Souness right beside them.

Now Dunphy riding Keane for buying bad players but telling them to pass the ball.

Love the RTE panel. Waxing lyrical about Arsenals style of play seemingly oblivious to the fact that they've been beat 3-1 tonight. In fairness to them, they're a damn sight more entertaining that the ****e anyone else puts on. Although Dunphy is annoying me by not researching the match he's doing; Souness had to point out Eric Abidal was previously with Lyon.

So with Barca, Man Utd, Arsenal, Inter, Sevilla qualified thus far, who's the best bet of making it all the way? Barca seem far too shaky at the back for me.

Barca have always been shaky at the back, although I think Utd or Arsenal would take them

that was hardly Arsenal playing a full strength team and tryign their best now was it.

Barca - United would be a dream match to watch.

I can see ManYoo in the final tbh.

They really dug out that win tonight to win the group.

They have Rooney to come back, the Neviller, Hargreaves hasn't had a proper run in the team yet either. Scholes.

Anderson looks a class act, I love his style of play and he'll do well for them.

If Giggs can have a couple of good games in Europe for them, back to something like his old self, and when Ronaldo hits proper form, they will be a very scary proposition.

When Berbatov signs in January, and they are rid of Saha, the choice of striker will be brilliant. Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov.

Yeah, United will go close this season, if not win the damn thing.

Oh and, Ronaldo better than Fabregas? Having a laugh whoever said that.

    I think United/Arsenal/Inter/AC Milan/Juventus/Real Madrid/Barca/Liverpool/Chelsea are all in with a shot :P

If I had to narrow the list, I'd put it down to United/AC Milan/Real/Barca as the favorites. As always I think United are gona win it, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Milan break our hearts again. I think though, they'll get to the quarters either way I think, and after that, if United get a bit of luck on the injuries front, we could go all the way this year.

Not for United I would say.

Arsenal Barca maybe, both play some superb football.

I for one say Ronaldo is a better player than Fabregas. Im sure Im not the only one either.

It's not that he's not a better player, it's just so far this season Fabregas has been better :)

    .

Maybe he'll actually manage to outscore Dirk Kuyt if he's playing for Utd. :)

Agreed. This season, Fabregas at his best has been marginally better than Ronaldo not at his best. At their best, Id take Ronaldo over Fabregas anyday.

Does UEFA Cup cup-tie players for the CL?

    Really?

    I didn't know that.

Imo, you can't compare. Ronaldo plays primarily on the wings, Fabregas is an out and out centre mid. And I emphasise the out and out bit, the amount of tracking back and tackling the youngster gets in is unbelieveable. Something thats not exactly Ronaldo's biggest attribute :p

hmmmm, mascherano last season springs to mind...so i guess, if liverpool can do it, then surely united can?

ronaldo has far better players around him than Fabregas and fabregas is the fulcrum of that team. Ronaldo is definitely a good player and better than most but even at the top of his game he is not as good as Fabregas at the top of his game.

He won't be cup tied if Berbs comes to United either.

Yeah, Masch played against Palermo, I think, for WHU earlier last season.

I think you can go up, but not down.

IE, play in the UEFA then the CL, but not the CL then the UEFA.

Nope, can compete in them seperately in either direction, or such is my reading of the rules.

Actually having re-read there again, am not sure, do they deliberately obfuscate their meanings ?

to be honest, those rules were different everytime the mascherano incident was mentioned.....i think des is correct in what he is saying. makes sense.

the press have always been reporting on this incorrectly and there has always been a misconception on these rules. the mascherano incident was the first to bring it to a head.

Not sure that this was the first time it came to a head have been many occasions where this has happened in the past.

What's funny is when I was writing that post, I was thinking, wait are Juve in the CL, no they aren't, much leave them out. The mind is a funny thing :)
