Try the New York Megathread! Some brilliant suggestions in that!

Hi Sunny2004, here's some attractions and links that may be of interest, if there's anything else you need post here or pm me and I'll help you if I can. You're probably planning on doing some shopping while you're there so if there's any shop in particular you're looking for you should find it here, this site's also good for looking up restaurants.

Ground Zero - there's not much to see here, it's still pretty much a building site but still worth a visit. Directly across the road is Century 21, a huge discount department store.

Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island - You can take the tour from Battery Park, which is right at the very end of Manhattan. You might need to book in advance so if you're interested in going check it out before you go. If you don't fancy going on a tour, you can still catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty by taking the Staten Island Ferry. The ferry crosses over between New York and Staten Island so you get views of the downtown skyline as well as the Statue of Liberty. There's not much to see or do on Staten Island but it's still worth making the crossing and it won't cost you a cent because the ride is free.

Empire State Building - you're bound to see this several times during your stay in New York so you'll have lots of photo opportunities. You can go all the way to the top, but I personally think the Top of the Rock is much better, plus you get to take picutres of the NY skyline with the Empire State Building in them. While you're there you can go ice skating at the Rockefeller Centre.

Times Square is obviously somewhere you have to visit when in New York. If you have kids with you they will love the Toys R Us here which has a giant ferris wheel inside the shop. Also, if you're planning on going to a Broadway Show you can get discounted tickets at the TKTS booth in Times Square. The queues can get very long and they don't have tickets for all the shows but you can save up to 50% of the original price.

Roosevelt Tram is a tram that goes over and back between Manhattan and Roosevelt Island at around 250 feet in the air, so you get some really good views. It leaves from 59th St/2nd Avenue every 15 minutes or so and takes around 5 minutes to cross.

South Street Seaport - great views of Brooklyn Bridge, especially at night. There's often street performers around here too so it's a nice place to spend an hour or two. There's another TKTS booth here with shorter queues than at the Times Square one.

Central Park - lots to see and do here, a full list at www.centralpark.com.

Some other places that may be of interest:
    Chinatown
    Little Italy
    St Patrick's Cathedral
    Grand Central Station
    5th Avenue
    Madison Square Garden

Look at www.bigonion.com for great walking tours. I did the Brooklyn Bridge one and was fab... All weather dependent of course.

Meatpacking District is great fun, loads of clubs, and I ate a delish meal in the flat iron building, cant remember the restaurant name though. Enjoy the grub as well as the sights!
