Lads just bringing this up again, have 5 of these back in cork and think they're the job.

want to invest for my place in dubland.

basically wireless streaming from server to ps3 is a bit buggy and want to move to solid network.

85Mb is that enough? good enough price for them on ebay

I find the 85mbs grand for gaming and SD video .. however if I was buying now (mine are 2 years old) I would get 200mbs versions if i had the budget, simply because hd is around the corner and bb speeds are about to reach 7.6mbs residential

Ya see that's where my confusion lies. Between internal and external. If it's "only" 7 meg coming in why do you need speeds of 200 meg around the house?? surely 85 meg will do?

and yes the eternal question of budget! hmm

the 85 are nice and cheap, 4 for 100 notes. there seems to be a big jump when you're going 200meg!

If you have devices on your LAN that can exploit a throughput of greater than 85 Mbps, say NAS using 1 Gbps ethernet. Accessing data on this machine would be throttled by the 85 Mbps connection (maybe not by much mind -- hard drives aren't that fast!).

Ya that makes sense, so the broadband connection to your house wouldnt really influence a decision on lan speeds?

u get nowhere near the rated throughput I would divide by 10 for dependable garaunteed throughput.

    google for reviews

"and depending on the length of mains wiring between units we got around 14.5Mbps to 20Mbps of actual throughput"

    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/hardware/reviews/2005/q4/solwiseplug.html

I used these solwise ones and have NO issues ... however I did a the MS media center test and it came up well below HD capability

Ya went with the 85K ones. 4 cost me over 100 notes so that'll do for the time being!
