I'm trying to put an avi file on my zen to play through the tv. I lost my disc with the software so I'm just dragging & dropping the file into the zen via my computer. I'm getting a message saying that the player doesnt support the video type (avi) and to try convert it in media player. Now I know that it does support avi, any idea what the problem is ?

Might be the audio encoder on the video file that is causing the problem. The Vision M doesn't support certain audio formats so won't transfer them to the player.

You'll need the software to download the Media Explorer. That's the only way I know of to convert the file to your device. Maybe borrow the disc from another Vision M owner. Other than that I don't see how it'll work. I've needed to convert several movies so Media Explore is a must have.

Super is much better for converting compared to Creative's offering.
(Just select one of the DIVX options as the output)

The Media Explorer works fine for me when I want to convert files.
But there are plenty of programs on the web that will convert just about anything to an AVI format you can use with the Zen.

Thats the thing though. The files are AVI already. I'll give that program posted a go though, thanks.

That is what I was referring to. It is the audio encoding within the video file itself that is causing the problem and not the actual file.

Go to one of the files in question that refuses to transfer. Right click it and go to properties. Click on details and see if it says what format the Audio is encoded in.

I use this to convert any avi film

    http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php

normally compress down to 200megs for a normal movie, there are a good few sites that give turtorials and the creative zen forum has v. good info also.

The bundle software to convert don't work for me.

my Zen plays most AVI's but struggles with the odd one..

I use iriverter for the odd one that doesn't work... it has an option to transfer into x.avi.zvm which will play perfectly....

there are loads of other programs that will do this also but this one was easy and free

I use Iriverter. It works everytime on my Zen Vision M once you select it.

Sounds like a DRM issue rather than conversion or codec supported by the Zen. Does it play ok on your PC/laptop?

Yeah the video file plays fine on the pc.

    Hello Tusky,

I lost my install CD for the Zen Vision: M a while ago and downloaded it again from this site:

    http://xxmycreativexx.blogspot.com/2007/05/creative-zen-vision-m-installation-cd.html

It looks like you have to register to get access to the downloads now, but this is definitely where I got the CD before.

If you are really stuck, PM me your address and I'll post it to you.
