Hi I'm thinking of getting a registry cleaner and wondered what the best one is. And is it even worth my while getting one??

Give Regseeker a try, great piece of free software.

I would recommend CCleaner myself, it is very safe and does a decent job

Regseeker seems to be very good, just make sure you are careful using it. Use the whitelist they provide, and make sure you back up your registry before hand

Registry Mechanic I find to be the best myself, but it is not free.

In my experience Regsupreme Pro from Macecraft (the same company that makes jv16 powertools) is the most thorough reg cleaner out there. It's aggressive scan often picks out over 1000 errors in my registry. That said it's not freeware so if you're counting the pennies I think CCleaner is a good alternative. It's free and does the job well!

reg supreme pro is the best , but you can also download regclean which is the original version of reg supreme developed by Jouni Vuorio before he started Macecraft
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html , but as with all reg tools BACK UP the registry first!
