If this is true there could be hope for T4 yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,198 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, read about this last night. Not sure to be honest.

As much as i love Christian Bale and he is one of the most impressive consistent actors in recent memories, i really don't think it was a wise career move to make.

Yes, i own all the Terminators (even the third!) but Jonathon Mostow made an absolute balls of T3 and they're getting McG to do this. Seriously... McG!? The name that sounds like it should be on a McDonald's menu.

It will probably make shedloads of money but i can see his cred getting a bit of a knock back. He always seemed to be more selective in his roles.

I predicted a T4 being done at one stage.. but assumed it would be nothing more than a cheap STV release.

McG :eek:This is the same guy who brought us the Charlies Angels films right?

Don't think even Christian Bale's magic touch would make this one work.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

McG is the director of those awful Charlie's Angels movies, any hope that the film was going to be good because of Christian Bale has now been cancelled by the asshat sitting in the director's chair.

Mayhaps Bale will have enough pulling power to have McG replaced as director. McG lost out on Superman after working on it for quite a while. Until cameras begin rolling, I wouldn't lose heart yet. However, if cameras do roll with McG behind them, count me out.

The updated report said that Bale is the new terminator, not the new john connor

mcg is right up ther with Michael Bay in my list of "directors I wish would die".

Terrible Career movie for Bale and hard to believe. Over the last few years he has become my favourite actor and even makes bad movies watchable. T3 was awful. Im sick of studies making 12s rated sequels to violent 18s movies.

As much as I rate Christian Bale (#1 for myself right now), I don't think he could make a movie helmed by McG work. There may be some truth - he has after all gone into the world of comic book adaptations which often other actors would scoff at - but I'd hope he'd only be attracted by a solid script and director, which "Batman Begins" had.

McG .. is not so good. Although I didn't despise "Charlie's Angels", it certainly wasn't a good showcase for the sort of talent needed to restore the Terminator series. Indeed his only work that was decent was his competent handling of the "Chuck" pilot and the success there owed far more to the scripting and acting than his work.

I would live for Mr. Nolan to take on this franchise as well - it'd suit the dark tones he put in the Batman franchise. Then I'd fall at the altar in supplication, rather than wishing to place the franchise on the altar for sacrifice.

That's what's bugging me, I hate that this has become a franchise.

I have the first two Terminator movies in my dvd collection and are held in high regard. As far as I'm concerned there was no third movie and that tv series can go and ****e.

That's what they said about the third one, but even the second one had better depictions of the war then the third one....and the third was called 'Rise of the Machines' ffs!

Damn that teaser trailer, promised so much while the film delivered so little!

I can understand that. In much the same way there's only three Alien movies. That's it, no more. Anyone who says otherwise is banned :)

I think there's some room in the franchise, but I'd like to movie it away from John Connor being the centre. I don't think the series itself will be any good and is limited in many ways but we could all be wrong yet.

I like to point that out to people who claim that Joss Whedon can do no wrong.

True... the script was poor but the all-over-the-place direction was even worse!

we gotta see the machine war!
what did people think of die hard as pg? was watching the dvd and willis was defending its pgness to the hilt, along side kevin smith.

just watching the 100 greatest films on e4 last night with a great clip from linda hamilton pointing out the james cameron was on the side of the machines, we need director who is on the side of the machines.

its needs a scifi direcotr not a action one, the forget that its a scifi movie.

speaking of good actors in blockbuster roles I wonder how ed norten as the hulk is coming along,

anybody see rescue dawn yet, its a sparse story, usual pow escape through jungle, but i like how bale plays the zany german (we've all met one).

Willis did an interview with one of the AICN team and said he was against it being a PG-13 film and wouldnt do another unless it was 18. However he got a slap on the knuckles from the studio over that interview so has been heavily promoting the film since.

No...it's just ****ing ridiculous now. I'm telling you, read up on the Sarah Conor Chronicals.
As far as I'm concerned, there were only two Terminator movies. No trilogy, no quadrilogy, no comic books, no cross-overs, no t.v. series and no podcasts pr whatever the **** else some dickhead has in store.

Better off to watch the alt ending to T2 and leave it at that. Although it was fairly cheesy, it didnt compare to the cack that was T3.

Seriously though, female terminator. She just looked so odd. And it didnt fit. Arnie must have been on mushies to do that film, course hes the governator now...

alternate ending? is that the one where Sarah gets old and is in the playground but nothing happens?

also I heard they're getting good ol' Edward Furlong to play John again. He was far better than the other bloke... Nick Stahl

I second this - The Terminator belongs to James Cameron alone, even Schwarzenegger couldn't make the third installment work. I was heartbroken when Cameron distanced himself from making any more films, but I've come to terms with it and realised that the beauty of having just two films is the ambiguity we're left with.

If this new film goes ahead it will be just another standalone film - absolutely nothing to do with what I see the terminator series as.

Exactly, what is it with Hollywood being unable to leave these things alone.
Cameron himself said he would not continue the story because as far as he was concerned, the story was finished.
    I agree with him.

im a massive terminator fan, massive

i first saw terminator when i was a mere 5 years old.

Now i eagerly awaited like many for T3 and although it wasnt amazing i thought it was ok and people bashed it too much ,it was ok.

I have some hope for T4 yet, if bale is in it, its obviously because he realises potential in it, and his standards of acting are so good im sure he can pull it through.

watched equilibrium the other night, if he wasnt in it id never watch it, but he makes it good, and i thought of him in a terminator role, and it does sound promising.

    Hahaha Bale good actor.

I ask of anyone, what could possibly redeem this?
I mean even if Cameron came back, we still have T3 in existence. Burned into the back of our brains.

in fairness mate if cameron and bale were on board for this, t3 would be completley forgiven.

    I disagree wholeheartedly.

I think the story has been ruined and the best thing to do is pretend that nothing came after T2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,521 ✭✭✭Shred

I really liked T3 tbh, I simply had no expectations of it and in fact thought it was going to be shít. But I was nicely surprised when I did see it (about a year after it came out) and I ended up *shock horror* actually buying it:eek: I thought it was a very entertaining movie and some people really do go over the top with their criticism of it imo. Once again I'll have no expectations of this one and just wait and see how it turns out. Bale being on board can only be a good thing anyway.

Yeah but in fairness Arnhold was one of ze worst things in T3. Perhaps if he's out of 4 there could be a chance.

No chance however if McGit is on board tho. Would Bale really work with this guy after working with the legends like Terence Malick and Werner Herzog?

Can see it now Arnie fighting Bale with all extreme wire flying action all to The Prodigys Slap My Bitch Up :( Feck Bale for going anywhere near this steaming mound of turd from McG's Anus!!!!!

T3 wasn't THAT bad, but compared to it's predecessors it wasn't up to much. If they had of renamed it and disassociated it from the terminator enterprise then people would probably think alot more of it.

Although personally, whoever came up with the idea of a female terminator should be shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Actually, I tell a lie, it wasn't that bad. It did make a pretty good comedy.

Arnold in Elton John's glasses!! Comedy genius....

There was two good bits in T3:
    1:
Short glimpse of Christina Loken's ass at the beginning
    2:
The first action sequence when the Arnie drops the crane thing down the sewer and the truck gets smashed into the road

Otherwise this was a bad film - it sours the terminator series for real fans because it will always be associated with the first two. I'm praying the inevitable 4th installment doesn't do the same.

Apparent confirmation of Christian Bale as John Conner : http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=21586

if he's cast as the main protagonist its a big mistake unless they change the director

(would be very interesting if nolan directed this but that would ever happen, i'd like to see 'burton-depp' movie relationship develop between the 2 that would be sweet)

Everyone loves to harsh on McG... I'm not saying it's totally unfounded, but as far as I can see he's only really made two films - Charlies Angles 1 & 2 - and both of them would have been silly films regardless of who was behind the camera. They're designed, written and acted that way.

His reputation as a ****ehawk seems to be based and relatively little. Or am I missing something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

That's exactly it though, he has little to his name and now he is in the driving seat of one of the most important film series in the world.

Well according to Wikipedia he directed two films called We Are Marshall and Stay Alive also. Haven't seen them but they're probably crap.

    Also he calls himself McG...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Again, not saying McG would be a first (second, third or forth) choice of mine.. but Cameron had very little to his name when he made the first one.

Ridley Scott was the same when he made Alien. And Cameron again with Aliens and Fincher with Alien3.

Obviously it would be nice if it were in guranteed safe hands but I don't see any great reason to totally write off McG just because he's McG.

It's more the fact that Terminator 3 sucked so much ass that has me worried.

Sweet zombie jesus stear clear of the Stay Alive film. It's woeful.
And Cameron ahd little to his name, maybe, but everything he did have was good.

I can say with complete certainty that I have no faith whatsoever in this McG.
