Firefox Problem

When I connected my laptop to the college wireless network, I was forced to install McAfee to allow access, as they only accept Norton or McAfee as protection, and not AVG. Ever since I installed it, Firefox hasn't been working in any meaningful sense of the word. It's incredibly slow and keeps showing "stopped" in the progress bar. I need to keep McAfee, not that I'm happy about it, in order to access the college wireless network, but I really don't like using Internet Explorer, and find it very clumsy. Has anyone any suggestions of how to get Firefox up and running again, or do I have to dump McAfee and lose my wireless access?
