Glutamine

One sunday back in August I did the London triathlon. I took the following two days off, then felt ok on the Wednesday so went to the gym. During this session I went for pb's on squat, deadlift and bench.

For the next few days I was absolutely wrecked with really bad headaches, what felt like a fever / throat infection and of course the DOMS from the gym session.

This week I was in Asda and whilst looking for some unflavoured whey I can across a tub of glutamine. This recommends glutamine after marathons to aid immune system recovery.

I guess my immune system was still recovering from the triathlon and not up to the heavy gym session, hence the symptoms of headache, etc.

Is it worth taking glutamine after a weights session workout in general? i.e. not just after a triathlon or marathon. Does glutamine do anything else apart from boost your immune system? Is whey still the optimum post workout drink?

It depends on what your diet is like when you're using it. Whenever I'm lo carbing I use a lot of glutamine and find its a big benefit pwo and to use during the day. I'm not sure on the immune system benefits but i don't really get sick so am undecided about it. Its worth trying and if it helps you then stick with it or if it doesn't then ditch it, simple really
