i'm not certain, but i don't think TV's are capable of displaying the REALD technology.

It won't matter if they are - TVs can't display the new 3D movies nor can most cinema screens in Ireland. I believe (open to correction here) that it requires a digital project which few cinemas have here and a nice screen to project against.
There's a reason you see that movie studios are keen to use this technology - unlike traditional movies, you won't be replicating this at home any time soon.

You need a projector that can output two images with different polarization and a screen with a coating that can reflect this light. Won't be happening in the home anytime soon.

What's the difference in this versus the old style 3d? I've seen a few old 3d movies in the cinema a few years ago, and still found them a lot of fun...

The Eye in Galway has digital projectors, and we did screen 3D movies previously, but I don't know anything bout the technology so I can't really comment on whether we'd ever have 3D movies like Beowulf or others.

The last 3D movie we screened was called Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

you can get the above dvds & glasses which works on sort of the same principle as the imax films. Because of the way these work, you are halving the resolution of the a standard dvd so while you get 3d effect the film quality won't be as good a standard dvd.

I saw sharkboy and lavagirl in 3d in the cinema in Oranmore. Looked great. So regardless of whether it was digital or not, seeing Beowolf in the same way would have been great....
