Does anyone know HOW mag sulphate works as a poultice? you can use it to draw boils and the like, but how it works is a mystery to me.

Well, like most salts, it will create a strong ionic gradient if applied externally. Fluid leaves the cells in response to the new gradient. Hey presto: drawing!
