There are no must-dos anywhere. There are things that you might be very interested in doing -- and that depends on the sort of person you are.

Say about more about what your interests are, and people here might have helpful suggestions to make.

ya i guess ww2 stuff, nice restaurants, bars general day trips...i rem reading that u can go up in a hot air baloon that would be cool anyone done this?

    Yup.

Went up on the balloon. It's tied to the ground but it's a good view.

Also, the T-Mobile tower is worth going up. You can't miss it. Slightly to the East side of the citiy I think.

Clubs: Berghein (but very hardcore, both the music and the crowd so unless you're a fairly seasoned clubber i wouldn't bother).

Sage is small but was decent craic the night we were there.

Checkpoint Charlie/Berlin Wall. There are also walking tours you can do that are supposed to be good.

Brandenburg? gate. Tiergarten (nice park). etc etc.

There's loads more but i didn't get round to doing it.

    Enjoy, it's a great city.

Berlin is a great, been there a few times now, best party city in europe imo. Much better than amsterdam.

Berghain and also the Panorama bar which is upstairs is an experience you wont want to miss. It's not hardcore by Irish standards, like rave or anything. Music is much more deep house.

Besides, where in Ireland would you get to go to a club, thats open from 11pm to 8pm the following night :) Oh... and it is/was an abandoned power station in the middle of an industrial estate, if your going though, make sure you have a good girl to guy ratio. They dont seem to like the sausage fests.

Stay away from Kreutzberg, it is an absolute dump and is generally a very poor area with alot of crime.

Prenzlauerberg, Freidrichshain are two good areas, there another club called Treysor thats quite good. The Kit Kat club is interesting for a look (you need to wear bizarre clothes to get in the door though).

I'd recommend using the public transport alot, Berlin is VERY spread out and is quite big.

Beware, don't ride the Public transport for free.. the ticket inspectors are in plain clothes.

I'd recommend apartments over hotels, the place we stayed in was absolutely GORGEOUS and was really cheap, the landlord gave us a bottle of wine when we showed up too !

Thats the one we stayed in, an another time we stayed in a much larger one which was also gorgeous !

Couldn't recommend that crowd enough, used them twice and they were excellent both times.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Insider Walking Tours. http://www.insidertour.com/ All guides are local with fluent english. The fellow we got had an MA in creative writing and really made the history of the city come to life. I went with my boyfriend and for a laugh one night we went on the insider tour pub crawl, which was a lot of fun, met loads of cool people. I'd definitely say try to stay east Berlin, rather than west. Anywhere around the Zoo etc. is quite grey and bleak, the real history is in the east.

Aye, some crazy places with the east.. the last time we went on a stag with a guy that was from Berlin. He brought us to some bars that looked more like squats than anything .. great fun though ! They had a Mig Fighter Jet out the back garden :D

They don't like sausage fests in Berghain? :D It's known in Berlin as a gay club. The security at the club is worse than that at an airport - not looking for drugs, it's cameras they're afraid of.

As for the guy that said it's only for a seasoned clubber, I never went to one club in Dublin...haven't been to one in years, but I went to Berghain and didn't leave till around 8 in the morning.

Definitely do the New Berlin tour..... it's free and you just give the guide whatever you think it was worth at the end (ie. s/he works on tips).

There was a blonde English guy called (I think) Simon when I was there, so try to get him as a guide if he still works for them. He was excellent.

They cover all of the major sights and give you a good overview of the time, put it into historical context, give some insight and often interesting factoids.

Simon (or whoever, lol) gives a REALLY fantastic account of the fall of the Berlin wall... goes on for about 20 minutes about it at the end of the tour, and it's mesmerising!

Definitely worth a look. I went on the general tour of Berlin, and then the next day went on the (paid - €10 I think) 3rd reich tour (both with the same bloke), and it was one of the best things I did on the holiday.

I've been in Berlin many times. It's great city. A agree with people that have posted before. You can find there great and cheap pubs (I paid 1,25 Euro for small local beer in pub), discos and many more. It's big city, much bigger than Dublin so you better buy some map.

If you're looking for 2WW stuff, then you should visit Nuremberg, a cultural capital of III Reich. Full of theaters, museums and historical places like hotels that has been visited by Hitler, Nazi stadium or Nazi coloseum.

Most of the III Reich constructions has been destroyed by people of Germany as the proof of they want to forget about those bad times.

There's a museum of pornagraphy exhibiting objects/artwork from ancient times to the present day. It is a serious museum in which you end up in a sex shop at the end.

    Erotic Museum
    Joachimstaler Strasse 4 Berlin 10623
