    Hi Folks,

    hope you can enlighten me here. am running a dell optiplex (XP Pro SP2, P4 3GHz, 1GB Ram) here in the lab and over the last week or so it has frozen up and the an alert appears on McAfee Virus Scan saying buffer overload alert, "bo:heap"

    here is the log:
    11/7/2007 4:27:05 PM Blocked by Buffer Overflow Protection BZ287384\user C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe::socket bo:heap
    11/13/2007 4:22:21 PM Blocked by Buffer Overflow Protection BZ287384\user C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe::socket bo:heap
    11/22/2007 3:22:09 PM Blocked by Buffer Overflow Protection BZ287384\user C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe::socket bo:heap

    after a bit of googleing am more confused than ever, is this a virus or is something terminal with my system?

    Any ideas appreciated,
    Cheers,
    Scobius

    Hard to tell really. You would need to post a HijackThis log to see.

    Well it's not virus related, so nothing to worry about. I would recommend you remove McAfee, thats about it :)

    Id agree with ASJ - might be a good idea to switch over to NOD32 Anti Virus. The same company, Eset, also have launched a security suite but im not best pleased with it to be recomending it just yet.

    AVG Anti Spyware seems to be very reliable though, so id suggest that for the spyware side of things.
